Workshops and Website Encourage Budget Participation
Jacksonville residents have several opportunuities to engage in the fiscal year 2011/2012 budget preparation process with five community budget workshops and an updated version of the city's comprehensive budget website: www.myjaxbudget.com.

Jacksonville Public Library Hosts "Great Decisions"
Great Decisions is a nationally recognized world-affairs educational program that will examine a pressing global issue each Wednesday evening for eight weeks at the Main Library Downtown, beginning Feb. 9.  Learn more and join the discussion.

Environmental Protection Board Seeks Honorees
The Environmental Protection Board is taking nominations for Environmental Achievement Awards to be presented at the annual Mayor's Environmental Luncheon.  Awards will be given in several categories.  Additionally, the EPB is taking nominations for the Charles E. Bennett Champion of the Environment Award.  Nominations for all awards are due Feb. 11 and may be found by clicking here.
 
A Cleaner, Safer City
Thanks to the nearly 400 people who came to the Feb. 5 household hazardous waste and e-waste collection event at Ed Austin Regional Park. More than 30 drums of flammables, pesticides, acids/bases and aerosol cans, a truck full of latex and half a dump truck of e-waste will now be disposed of properly. The next collection event will be Feb. 26 at Crystal Springs Park.  More information on Remote Collection Events.

Jacksonville Lacrosse Matches Will Feature National Powerhouses
Lacrosse Classic logoDuke University and the University of Notre Dame will reprise last year's national lacrosse championship while Jacksonville University takes on Georgetown University Feb. 20, 2011, in the Moe's Southwest Grill Sunshine Classic.  For more information on the event, click here.
St. Johns River License Plate 
St. Johns River License PlateA specialty license plate dedicated to the St. Johns River are available for purchase at local tax collectors offices.  Sales will support programs to protect the river and funds will be administered by the St. Johns River Alliance.  Click here for more information on the new plate.
