Last week, 86-year-old Don Hamilton piloted his Cessna 340 down to Red Deer for his usual weekly visit to his aviation company’s central Alberta aircraft hanger. The owner of Air Spray Ltd., inducted this spring into Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame, spent hours last week preparing for a difficult pilot’s exam. He went golfing on Saturday and met a friend for coffee on Sunday.

An Arizona judge has ordered the world’s toughest sheriff to take it easy on Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin when he serves 15 days for drunk driving. The goalie has been made eligible for a work-release program, meaning that from Monday to Friday, jail is just a camp-out in the desert.

Summer is the time to really savour salads. Edmontonians have plenty of fresh greens in their backyards, and (mosquitoes notwithstanding) can gather a fine selection of spinach, arugula, and red or green leaf lettuce to mix things at a moment's notice.
