The Film
In 1943 a squadron of Lancaster bombers staged one of the most audacious raids in history – they destroyed two gigantic dams in Germany’s industrial heartland – and cut the supply of water to arms factories - with a revolutionary bouncing bomb invented by British engineer Barnes Wallis.
Wallis and the flyers of 617 Squadron – a lively mix of Britons, Australians, New Zealanders, Americans and Canadians - were hailed as heroes. These men had dealt a mighty blow to the German war machine and changed the course of the war – they were The Dambusters.
This film tells their story using rare interviews with surviving veterans, a recreation of the famous marble experiment with Barnes Wallis Jr., and the first computer animated reconstruction of the raid.
