Hezbollah stages coup drills in Beirut as indictments loom, newspapers say
A pro-Hezbollah cleric spray paints his family name on a banner in Sidon supporting caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Militants fanned out across Beirut and reportedly staged coup drills as political unrest continued to percolate in the country, Lebanese and Israeli media outlets reported.

Operatives from Hezbollah and Amal, both Shiite groups, gathered in groups of up to 30 at a dozen strategic points in the Lebanese capital Tuesday, The Jerusalem Post said.  Included were sea ports, the airport and entries to the city, the newspaper reported.

Though Ghaleb Abu Zeinab, a member of Hezbollah’s political bureau, told The Post he wasn’t aware of any such drills, parents pulled their children from school after seeing people dressed in black and carrying hand-held radios.

A mother of three picking up her children in the Hamra area of the capital said the school contacted her “because the security situation is not good,” The Daily Star in Beirut reported.

One gathering was about 400 yards from the Grand Serall, downtown Beirut’s government seat, forcing security officials to close the roads to the building, The Post said.  The men were unarmed and no trouble was reported, according to various media.

Sources told The Daily Star that the men appeared well-organized and were seen in west Beirut, downtown and in the southern suburb of Hadath.

The drill came as Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan sat down for talks with Lebanese politicians, including Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, aimed at heading off sectarian strife in the country, The Daily Star reported.

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad is also involved in the talks, and he met with Lebanese Army Gen. Jean Kahwaji to discuss a potential role for the Syrian army in achieving security and stability in Lebanon, the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency said.

An earlier joint mediation effort by Syria and Saudi Arabia fell apart this week, and Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal told al-Arabiya that his nation abandoned its efforts because the situation was dangerous.

“If the situation reaches full separation and (regional) partition, this means the end of Lebanon as a state that has this model of peaceful cohabitation between religions and ethnicities,” al-Faisal told the station.

A coalition led by caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri viewed the drills as a rehearsal for what might happen if Hezbollah is accused of involvement in the bombing that killed Hariri’s father and 22 others in 2005, according to The Daily Star.

“The orchestrated gatherings carried out by members of Hezbollah and its allies for more than two hours … were aimed at sending a clear message to the Lebanese about preparations to stage riots and also a similar message to the Qatari and Turkish foreign ministers who are visiting Lebanon today,” Hariri’s Movement of the Future said in a statement.

The U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon handed down a draft indictment that Israel’s Haaretz newspaper said indicts several Hezbollah members in the assassination. The International Court of Justice at The Hague, Netherlands, has not released specifics of the indictment for fear of provoking violence in Beirut.

The tribunal has no police force and relies on national authorities to arrest suspects, something Hezbollah has said it would never do, according to Haaretz.

Hezbollah has repeatedly denied involvement in the bombing and says the tribunal is an “American-Israeli tool” for stoking sectarian violence in Lebanon, The Daily Star reported.

A source close to Hezbollah further told the newspaper that Tuesday’s drills were “a small message to say that the time for talk is over.”

Other sources close to Hezbollah told The Jerusalem Post that the drills were “a real exercise to test the readiness of any such plan to take over Beirut and its periphery, including entries, the port, waters and the airport.”

The Post cited another source who said that Hezbollah wants to avoid a civil war like the one that killed tens of thousands in Lebanon between 1975 and 1990. Rather, the group would prefer to “deal directly with the U.N. and the International Court.”

The U.N. building in central Beirut could be one of Hezbollah’s future targets, a source told the newspaper.

Eleven members of Hariri’s 30-member Cabinet resigned last week as the prime minister was meeting U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House. The move brought down Lebanon’s unity government and prompted several mediation efforts.

Hezbollah, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department, had been pressuring the government to reject the tribunal’s investigation into the bombing that killed Hariri’s father, who resigned as prime minister the year before his death.

Hezbollah blames the bombing on Israel, while many Lebanese people have blamed Syria, which had immense influence in Lebanon at the time.

Lebanon.. will be far better off with a majority Hezbollah government.... in practical terms.. Hezbollah has been the main form of government for most of the Lebanese ppl for a long time now.. also being that the majority of ppl in Lebanon are Shia.. it also seems like the democratic thing as well.. not to mention that the "official" government has been unstable simply because it is much more corrupt and fails at serving the ppls interests..

Unfortunately western countries/ Saudi would not prefer that as it interferes with their interests. For democracy to work in Lebanon they have to actually get rid of all sectarian barriers within the Lebanese government. Everything has time, things always work out. I just hope the Lebanese people don't fail to realize their enemy is it's southern neighbor and they should always be prepared for any Israeli aggression.

I would not want Hezbollah legislating laws if I were a Christian or Sunni.

There is no majority in Lebanon. You folks need to learn to get along with your fellow countrymen. Religion is a topic for discussion at the family dinner table or at your house of worship. Do not take God out into the streets. You will find the Devil there instead. Anytime you feel hatred rise up, that is the Devil at work. Matters not your religion what matters is what is in your heart.

Lebanon is for all the Lebanese. I am Lebanese, I don't the people here putting comments. I lived through the civil war, there is no way the turmoil to end unless all parties come together and solve the problems and live in peace. Any party takes over the war will go on and on...such a sad sad day for me. I live in the US now, but couldn't stop crying all day. Only the people who lived through the horrors of the Lebanese war know what it means. Very sad. Hope the leaders there realize that war will not solve any problems. Taking over and defeating the other party will not make things betters.

According to Hezbollah's published ideology in the "Hizballah Program", the organization cannot tolerate governmental rule shared with those who do not adhere to sharia (islamic) law. The tempering of its views on women and democracy are due to its attempts to gain ground in Lebanon, with its written code still maintaining extremely oppressive rhetoric. Its ties to Iran will do not thing to bring about autonomy for the Lebanese people, and will bring it into further conflict with its neighbors.

I don’t know if CNN will publish this, but my name is Muhammad, I am a Shia engineer who lives in Beirut, & the facts are that Hezbollah is totally guilty of Hariri’s murder, and of wanting to totally take Lebanon. They have no interest in peace, they are funded by Iran & Syria and wish to make all the middle east a Shia run fundamentalist way of life. My father is a backer of Hezbollah & would just as soon kill me publicly if he knew of my comments here today- the way of life is nothing but disaster. Hariri was killed because he was tired of their crap, lies, evilness & garbage. Let’s see Mr. Obama’s leadership now… If Hezbollah makes a war with the ‘Lebanese & Israel’ and Israel bombs Iran to protect itself, you’ll quickly see Russia & China get involved on the side of the Iranians… Where is this going? And for those who will insult my comments- do your homework… The Shia are crazy people, they’d rather die in the name of Islam then have peace any day of the week- please God help our small country of Lebanon…

Hezbollah is a terrorist organization funded by Iran to control Lebanon. They use the money from Iran to for social projects as well as for terrorist activity. Hezbollah is not interested in what is best for Lebanon, but instead what is best for Iran. Furhtermore, they are a fundamentalist organization that wants to limit individual freedom and replace it with Islamic law.

Hezballah is good for the Lebanese people as much as the taliban was good for the Afghani people. hezballah needs to coward back to Iran and wreak havoc on the iranian governement. They should let the Lebanese people have a break from war that they have experienced over the past 4 decades.

One thing I still don't understand though . . . why is it that every country ruled by islamic law must turn back the clocks of time 40 or 50 years with respect to human rights, religious freedom and freedom of expression? If hezballah takes control of Lebanon, the Paris of the middle east will become a second Tehran. How wonderful that would be . . .

It is not clear what proportion of Lebanon is made up of any particular religious group as there has been a bloody civil war and massive emigration since the last census. The Shiites are probably the biggest group now, and very possibly the majority, but it is not at all clear, and the numbers change dramatically when one counts the Lebanese living abroad from fear of renewed civil war or a Hezbollah takeover.

They are a terrorist organization according to the US State Department, and have attacked Israel with the sole intent of killing Jewish people. They believe Islam should dominate the world, and will not step their violence. Israel is going to wind up invading after they launch a 9/11 style attack on Israeli soil.

You are incorrect – the Nazis never enjoyed more than 20% support in Germany, they just never had more than about 15% opposition. The Taliban was never overly popular in Afghanistan it was just that they were more stable than the Communists. History shows that it only takes about 20% active popular support to convince sufficient numbers of others to go along for the ride.

The Taliban did not replace the communist in Afghanistan, they did not even exist then. They were formed to take control when the people who did drive the Russians out and overthrew the communists fell apart fighting. The Taliban never had majority support for anything than stopping the violence. Hezbollah might get the same thing, but they are the ones committing the violence.

That being said, they need to allow the Shia's in the government through elections. That is assuming they are Lebanese and not refugees from elsewhere. In other words, if they want to vote, they have to become Lebanese permanently and be willing to put Lebanese concerns first, or in other words stop attacking your powerful, and very well armed neighbor.

I suppose the US and Israel care about this world, and democracy in the region? Hezbolla is a terrorist organisation by US and Israeli standards, not by the standards of the 300 million Arabs who live around it! And their sole purpose is to liberate Lebanon and Palestine and establish an Islamic state. What do you guys know about Islam? Have you engaged yourselves in understanding it or simply are repeating what you hear and see in the media? For your information the US declared Hezbolla a terrorist organisation when they were fighting the Israeli army in southern Lebanon trying to liberate it. They hadn't done a single attack on the Israelis outside Lebanon! THEY WERE FIGHTING ISRAELIS IN LEBANON when they declared it a terrorist organisation. Look at the Israeli track record of human rights, violations, torture, OCCUPATION, and look at how many times the US has vetoed every single attempt to passing a resolution (even a condemnation only) against the Israelis. You'll see why people are upset with the west. This double standard sickens most of us here.

Hezbollah is the aggressor, trying to make a name for itself at the expense of peace. It's an extremist religious and militant organization with no inteest in peace or democracy. Israel's only interest in Lebanon is to have a quiet northern border – that's all. Israel has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon and never has. The only reason Israel ever entered into Lebanon was to stop PLO and Hezbollah terrorists from attacking Israel. Israel has no interest in destabilization – to the contrary, they want stability and peace to continue to grow their economy and live in a free democracy – something maybe its Arab neighbors should try.

I really used to be all for the peace process, and at one time was in favor of the "land for peace" formula, but jew haters like you who support Hezbollah and blame everything on "the zionist occupiers" which is a lie, since they are descendants of the original hebrews and arre the rightfull owners of the land. It's obvious that the islamic people of the middle east want to kill off Israel, so as far as I'm concerned, Israel has the right to take whatever it needs ofr security

Between France, Germany and the UK as well as the USA, Western nations have been mucking around in the Mideast for over 200 years. Before that you have the whole Eastern Roman Empire thing going on as well. The simple fact is that empire building is human nature. I find it odd that a non-democracy such as Syria is one of the most tolerant in the world. Lebanon used to be the same. I don't know why it fell apart but I wish Lebanon the best in the future. As for blaming Israel for wanting to exist, I have found a number of incidents where the Israelis tried to partner with the Palestinians for a 2 party state and the Palestinians turned them down. There is enough blame on both sides.

When organizations that presume to represent Palestinians start hunting other Palestinians as if they were dogs, such as we have seen with Hamas, it removes any legitimacy from claims of Palestinian sovereignty.

Hezbollah wasn't defending Lebanon against Israel when they attacked Israel a few years ago. But they certainly brought hell down upon Lebanon by kidnapping those Israeli soldiers, refusing to release them, and firing rockets into Israel.

Anyone who thinks that this demonstration by Hezbollah is laudable, is insane. This is a show of power and an outright demonstration of a guilty conscience.

Laffin...please tell the correct story or ask someone who knows about it before you make your judgment. Look at where it started. Israelis occupy areas of southern lebanon, occupy Palestine, hold 11,000 prisoners (plenty of torture). If it was your country wouldn't you want it liberated? Do you know how many children are living in Israeli prisons? Would you accept it if your country was occupied, your people (some relatives even) tortured and imprisoned, your land confiscated, forced to live in tents for 50 years?

@Arab Voice: Where was the violent retaliation during Syria's occupation? Also, you are simply choosing to look one step farther back. Do you know WHY Israeli ever occupied foreign lands in the first place? Because they were violent. Does the Arab attack on Israel in 1948 ring a bell? PLO violence from Lebanon that brought Israel in to occupy the south? Also, do YOU know how many "children" are held in Israeli prisons? Or is this just a line you repeat over and over because it sounds sensational? You really have no idea. There could be 1000. There could be 0. And what would you call "children"? Your so-called "heroes" like Samir Kuntar, a 15 year old kid who took a boat to Israel and killed a policeman, a civilian man, and his 4 year old daughter? It's no wonder places like Lebanon have such violent radicals. Look at the people you idolize.

Arab Voice – No, if the nations surrounding me declared that my nation mush be wiped from the face of the Earth I would not sit idle. I would invade Lebanon exactly as Israel did when Lebanon supported Syrian and Palestinian forces trying to massacre the Israelis. You made a good point – the Arabs are to blame for trying to exterminate the Jews. The original Israel was pretty tiny but each time the Muslim world attacked them they expanded to build a much bigger buffer zone. It makes sense militarily. Too bad the Israelis didn't go in for the whole extra taxes and persecution thing that Islam promotes. Since Palestinians are active in Israeli politics and sit in the Israeli government, I'm wondering where the matching example of tolerance is from the Hezbollah side. Can you find one?

The correct story is that in 1982, the PLO was attacking Israel from Lebanon and had been for YEARS. Israel entered Lebanon to stop the PLO. Hezbollah formed that SAME YEAR. So, it's not as though they formed to fight some longstanding occupation.

@Arab Voice. Your comments show that you don;t care at all about Lebanon, but only want to impose fundamentalist Islamic laws on Lebanon, and turn it into an arm of Iran. Why should Lebanon care about the Palestinians? Why should Lebanon care about Hezbollah prisoners held by Israel? They shouldn't. They are a democracy, and Hezbollah is fed up that they don't have enough influence to turn the democracy to their own agenda, by using money from Iran to bribe the citizens into electing them into positions of power. So now they're trying to take over by force. I know you don't care about Lebanon, Arab Voice. You only care about spreading Islamic propaganda to try to create and maintain Islamic states in that region of the world. If you really cared about the Palestinians, you would be blaming Egypt, Syria, Iran, etc. for abandoning those people, and using them as pawns in their war against Israel.

Lebanon's enemy is not Israel. It is instead the destabilizing forces of Syria, Iran and other Arab countries as well as the strident militarism of Islamists represented by Hezbollah. In some ways Lebanon has brought it on themselves by failing to treat Palestinians within her borders with dignity. The same mistreatment is true in Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt and other countries. True. If you want to see mistreatment and neglect of Palestinians, Palestine's Arab neighbours earn a lot of the blame that they throw on Israel. Though with Lebanon, keep in mind that the PLO didn't exactly make the Palestinians a welcome group in Lebanon. They were the ones who brought an Israeli invasion in the first place with their extremist violence. They forced their violent plight onto the people of Lebanon (granted Lebanon had been involved in previous wars with Israel, but only to a minor extent).

good point Jack Sheet on the strength of hezbolla. I'd like to add that Lebanon is 30% shiite with full support to Hezbolla. At least half of the other 70% is in support of Hezbolla so that makes it 65% of the population supporting them. As for Lebanon doomed, well, when you got 65% of the population supporting it i would say Lebanon is saved and stronger. Islam for your information is a great religion. Talk to some Islamic scholars to understand it and get your hands on some reliable sources instead of hearing about it from the western media.

They are powerful because Iran has spent a substantial part of its petro dollars on making them its proxy army in the heart of the Sunni Arab world. As to their fight with Israel, everyone knows (even the Iranians) that they will never win. But Iran is satisfied because they now have a thorn in the heart of Sunni Islam. Hezbollah is a terrorist group LOL. They have been behind dozens of suicide bombings that target CIVILIANS, not soldiers. The people like Hezbollah, because their fundamentalistic ideologies are brainwashed into them in the mosques. Moreover, the democratic governments are corrupt, and Hezbollah offers hospitals, day care centers, everything the actual government is supposed to do. However, by also strapping bombs onto their citizen's waists, they are helping to keep the people alive in order to kill them for their cause.

Last time I checked, strapping a bomb around one's waist and walking into a civilian area just to terrorize a neighboring country is TERRORISM.

Is al-Quada not a terrorist group either?

Calling Muslim suicide bombers freedom fighters is the biggest sham either. What about the Islamic faith is free? Stoning people for speaking bad about the religion? Stomping on teenage girl's heads for dating a boy from a different faith? Hanging gays in village square?

Dying to instill oppressive sharia law does not make one a freedom fighter. It makes them a satanic oppressor.

Israel was never a threat to Lebanon, and were only forced to invade in 1980 to uproot the Palestinian militia that was using Lebanon for attacks against Israel. Hezballa claims to defend Lebanon against Israel, but their existance inside Lebanon invites Israeli aggression against Lebanon. Hezballa is an answer to a self created problem. That said, it is too late. Lebanon is doomed. Hezballa is probably the 2nd most powerful army in the region (after Israel) and they have set their eyes on ruling Lebanon. It makes you look shallow and unable to comprehend human dynamic beyond a 2nd grade interaction.

JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE HEZBOLLAH DOES NOT MAKE IT AN EDICT THAT THE REST OF THE WORLD'S POPULATION NEEDS TO ALIGN WITH. RIGHT OR WRONG, IT IS AN OPINION AND NEITHER OF OURS HOLDS ANY MORE TRUTH THAN THE OTHER. GET IT NOW?

The Beirut barracks bombing (October 23, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon) occurred during the Lebanese Civil War, when two truck bombs struck separate buildings housing United States and French military forces—members of the Multinational Force in Lebanon—killing 299 American and French servicemen. The organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the bombing, but that organization is thought to have been a nom de guerre for Hezbollah—or a group that would later become part of Hezbollah[1]—receiving help from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The next war with Israel is looming.....Iran will have complete control in Lebanon and will turn Hezbollah,it's mad dogs, loose to wreck havoc in the Middle East. Hopefully, this time Israel, without the interference of the hopeless and corrupt UN, will totally destroy the terrorist organization and free Lebanon of this monstrous animal. The unfortunate part is that many civilians will die and of course Israel will be blamed.

In regards to the comments made about the israeli/Hezbollah war of 2006. Anyone who knows anything about war knows that Hezbollah is not an actual threat to Israel. On what criteria do you claim that Hezbollah won the war. Not losing the war completely is not a victory. What damage dis they do to Israel? What Israeli territory dis they seize? They are the same as all the other cowardly militias. They fire some of their weapons and then go and hide in hospitals, schools, and mosques, because they are nothing but cowardly thugs. Ask the Lebanese people if they won that war.... Last time I checked 'freedom fighters' wasn't synonymous with cowardly, but maybe it has a different meaning in the middle east. I hope Israel 'loses' again this time, just like it did in 1967, and every other conflict with Muslim countries.

Many Lebanese think their best interests lie in getting rid of Hezbollah. Since 60% of the population oppose Hezbollah, I don't see where your apparent support of them makes any sense.

Kraznodar- Make yourself aware that oppression comes in many forms. Psychological or physical. Blacks in amerikkka have already been through the physical subjugation if you are aware of history. Example: Tulsa, Oklahoma (1920's), Wealthy Blacks were bombed, shot dead and houses looted by white americans. 400 years of proof. The west has a history of taking from others.

You should also make a clear distinction, it matters not if one million people believe in the wrong principle, it only matters if one person understands Truth & Justice. Your mention of 60% of Lebanese wanting to do away with Hezbollah is not validated because you have not illustrated fully, the reason behind the 40%'s support. It should be clear by now that America is the greatest terrorist on this planet, not just other countries, but even Nature knows this to be a Truth.

Question. If all of the middle east was destroyed by nuclear bombs, Would the world be a better place? As sad as it is to say, the answer is probably yes. The inhabitants of the middle east are the remenants of a great civilization. The problem is that their beliefs, values, and customs have not changed for hundreds of years. I wish they would embrace education, tolerance, and love for other cultures and beliefs that are not their own. Instead if trying to better themselves they constantly blame others, aka the US for their problems. Perhaps if they cares more for their children and families than they did about revenge and religious conquest their society could advance beyond the dark ages.

Have you ever known when and why Hezbollah was created?

That was because Isreal invaded Lebanon in 1982. Hizbullah emerged as a resistance group since then. If Israel did not invade Lebanon, Hizbullah never exists.

All of thse bad things happening in Lebanon are orchestrated by US, Isarel and Western countries. They want to undermine stability of Lebanon and isolate Hizbullah with whatever ways. They are very concerned about Hizbullah's popularity in the region and Islamic world. It is a symbol of resistance. US, Isarel and corrup Arab leaders want to stop Hizbullah from gaining its popularity in the region. While US puts Hizbullah as a terrorist organization, I have never seen Hizbullah killed inncocent people around the world and make any trouble in the region except to liberate their southern territory occupied by Zionists who have been killing thousands of innocent people and children in the region. Why does not US also enlist this state as terrorist organisation?

It is clear that Hezbollah has nothing to do with Hariri's killing. They have no interest in killing Hariri. It makes more sense if this is done by Israel or some factions in Syria

It would be nice if the ArabVoice could decide on a period of history and stick to it. Frankly, any Arab discussing Imperialism must ask himself why there was a reconquest of Spain in the 1400's...could it be? Arab Imperialism? Yes. Somalia is Islamic because of Arab Imperialism, Pakistan, Iran, many Islamic nations gained their faith via conquest. So really, you're insistence on "US meddling" being the cause of instability is really a rheotrical device used by those who preach from the pulpit a message of the Israeli/US being the cause of instability. Look at your history, Islam has created some of the most enlightened regimes in the world...HAS is the operative word....now Islam has been corrupted by the political world and has become a shadow of its former self. Hezbollah was a member of the government, and never pushed for the "liberation of Lebanon"...instead they used their term in office to behave like children who got caught being bad. They have denied the allegations of their complicity in the assassination of Hariri...but have refused to co-operate with any investigation into who was behind it. That sounds like a guilty conscience, if they weren't responsible, they would welcome an investigation to clear their names. ICC has repeatedly handed down verdicts in favour of Islamic groups (KLA) so the insinuation that somehow they're corrupted by the US doesn't stand so well. Especially considering the ICC's repeated attempts to prosecute American war criminals, their subservient status which you claim doesn't live up to the facts. Frankly, its the ignorance and rheotric which has cast a shadow in Lebanon...not the US or Israel...and the idea the Syrians are a force for good is unsustainable. The presence of their military in the civil war protracted the conflict, and they have repeatedly destabilized any nascent government. In essence the problem is that the people of this region have forgotten the real lessons of their past, that tolerance prevails where force cannot and love conquers hate. The history of this region is so vast, that anybody can formulate a historical reason for violence against another...and be justified. Stop looking at who needs not to be there, and work on making it work with who IS there. 1 state solution in Israel...call it the Israeli-Palestinian Republic or if you prefer the Palestinian-Israeli Republic, either way stop cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Either convert to Islam, live as a dhimmi and pay jizya or die. That was the way it was and even the Islamic apologists can't dispute that. Even Mecca and Medina were Jewish towns before the lovely Mohamed invaded them, killing by beheading all of the men and boys and taking the women and girls as slaves. The truth hurts doesn't it?

I don't know if CNN will publish this, but my name is Muhammad, I am a Shia engineer who lives in Beirut, & the facts are that Hezbollah is totally guilty of Hariri's murder, and of wanting to totally take Lebanon. Let's see Mr. Obama's leadership now... If Hezbollah makes a war with the 'Lebanese & Israel' and Israel bombs Iran to protect itself, you'll quickly see Russia & China get involved on the side of the Iranians... Where is this going? And for those who will insult my comments- do your homework... The Shia are crazy people, they'd rather die in the name of Islam then have peace any day of the week- please God help our small country of Lebanon...

I hear all this talk about who is and who is not part of a terrorist organization. Apparently no one recalls all of the terrorism spread throughout the globe by Europeans. Open a history book or take an "Objective" look at todays world events and you will find that the real global terrorists are most of todays superpowers. I am not a fan of Hezbollaha or any other group that sponsors terrorism but a lot of the actions that they take are reactionary to the policies and actions of the self proclaimed guardians of the innocent that only become involved if their is political or financial gain involved.

There never was a Palestine in the history of the world. On the other hand, since the Jews have been in that part of the world continuously for 3500 years, the Arabs stole the land from them. But we don't want to discuss that do we? Maybe the Saudis should return Mecca and Medina to the Jews since the Jews were there first. What do you say?

Arab Voice – WELL SAID !!!!

As an American who previously believed the Zionist media 'spin' in the US, it took me 30 days of touring Jordan and Palestine (Jerusalem, Gaza, Haifa, Tel Aviv, Jericho, etc.) to see the truth through the propaganda. The nuclear-armed Israelis are the problem in the Middle East. They have no interest in peace.

The Palestinians and the American pawns (Egypt, Jordan, Mauritania, Turkey, Oman, Qatar, Morocco, etc.) should immediately BREAK ALL CONTACT WITH THE JEWS.

Decades of history prove the Zionist Terrorists are back-stabbing, land-grabbing liars. Sadat and King Hussein caved and are traitors to all Arabs. Sadat got what he deserved.

Now all oppressed Arabs need to treat their dictators the same way brave Tunisians treated the theif, Ben Ali.

So the Lebanese are oppressed because of the Israelis? Before the Arabs took over Lebanon the Lebanese led a nice life and were friends of sorts with the Israelis. So the Iranians are oppressed because of the Israelis too? How about the Saudis(especially the women and minorities)? Israel is oppressing them as well? And I assume that Israel is responsible for oppression of the Afghans, the Pakistanis, the Christians in the Sudan and Somalia and Egypt. Of course the Muslims never ever oppress anyone. Muslims are responsible for literally hundreds of times more deaths of other Muslims than Israel has ever been. But hey, that doesn't count because it's not Israel's fault.

Islam and the modern world don't mix, Islam has laws where if your religion is different froom Islam, that is a death penaty. lAs with the jtaliban which outlaw schools for women, because women are considered as dogs and unworthy of education, thats Islam for you. Hezbollah is just as bad as the taliban if not worse. Hezbollah killed the famous president of Lebanon for trying to promote democracy reforms, Hezbollah is considered a terrorist group for a reason, the reasonis that they are murderers, that why Iran who hates Israel funds hezbollah, so that Hezbollah can continue its murderous ways.

I love hearing people support Hezbollah. It really comes down to National pride. Germany's was at an all time low when Hitler and his party came into power. Now Germans spend their time repairing and apologizing for their grandparents going with the flow. Israeli's may not be saints, but it beat the alternative. Look at it in the most simple terms. Islam supports wife beating. It supports blinding school girls with acid (when anyone speaks about the Taliban being good for Afghans, they must not be part of the human race). Islamic law in purest form becomes archaic and completely inhumane. When it's on a moderate level, it can be a beautiful spiritual force. But just like Zionists are insane, so are extreme Muslims. You cannot tell them much apart when anyone goes to extremes in the middle east. And if you need to stage a coup because you want to avoid the truth about a a murder investigation, then how can that group support Democracy? It is the height of hypocrisy. And them people say what have they done to Europe or America? Hmm, I wonder if those people were around thinking the Taliban is not a big deal in the 80s and 90s when we helped rid them of the Russians. Whether Israel is this is this or that, it's Arab parents that are pulling their children from school because of ARABS. Not because of Israel. The State Department declared them Hezbollah terrorists because they are willing to attack civilians and more importantly, they HIDE BEHIND LEBANESE SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS DURING WAR! Anyone sympathizing with that type of organization is simply an rabid animal.

Muhammad, you probably did not check replies to your previous post after I posted my response. Here is what I wrote:
"Muhammad, you are so good and so courageous that it is even not easy to believe you are real. But I do know that people like you do live in Lebanon, my son had a Lebanese friend like you.
As to this "Make them nomads", do not pay attention to him, he is just a piece of nomad's horse sh$t."

A couple of comments on your last post.
      1. It is not correct to put the blame on both sides. The Arabs started the war the next day after declaration of the state of Israel and started discriminatory actions against their own Jewish population. It is difficult to love your neighbor in this situation. Israel was forced to fight as it was forced to fight in all subsequent Arab aggressions . You also cannot love people who call for your annihilation and subsidize the terror against you.
      2. As to blood on the hands of both Israelies and Arabs, that is not surprising, when you are at war, you kill one another and the blood happens to get on the hands of all the participants. When there is a bandid who attacks you and you stand up to him and kill him, the blood will be on the hands of both. But you should never forget who is the attacker and who is defending himself, otherwise you risk to lose the sight of what is going on.
      3. I think you are not right when you are equating zionists and shia extremist. What I see in you it is already too much to expect from a shia Muslim. To have your views on the conflict and not to hate other people Jews included – it is more than I could expect from a shia Muslim. Still traces of propaganda still have some risidue in you, I think. "Zionist" from the mouths of many Jew haters became like a label for Jewish terrorists. In fact, Zionism was a movement to go back to Jewish historical motherland in response to pogroms all around Europe and in other countries including Arab countries. Zionists do not call for killing or annihilation of anybody but they do stand for the right of Jews to have their own homeland where Jews can defend themselves. So, I wouldn't put Islamist terrorists in one company with Zionists.
      4. Another mistake of yours, and forgive me for calling it "mistake" because in this case I am sure it is, is when you say that you hate uneducated people on both sides. Education does not give a person intelligence. Stupid people when they become educated are the worst kind, they become more active with their stupidity. Many uneducated people show much more intelligence than the educated ones.

Thanks for warming up my heart one more time by showing that there are good people even in the countries which went through terrible brainwashing. I wish there were more people like you in Arab countries.

The situation is Lebanon is far more complex than any US media outlet or affiliate will be able to report. This is a beautiful country with wonderful citizens that come from very diverse backgrounds, each one offering something unique that makes Lebanese culture so great. The political strife in Lebanon is truly heartbreaking because it is rooted in age-old conflicts between ethnic/religious sects, and it overshadows a citizenry that, on an individual basis, is one of the most hospitable, life-loving people I have ever come across. I love Lebanon and hope and pray that this country, which has finally started to return after devestating civil war, can persevere through this situation intact...or at least not destroyed.

Unfortunately, some people think that Hezbollah and his allies (specially the "crazy MIKE") will take over the capital and the country and they will dominate the government and rule the people the way they want. But, fortunately, there are still some good people in Lebanon that disagree with this situation, and want the country to be free and independent.
I would say that Lebanon is a very unique country, because of the people who believes in FREEDOM and these people will say again NO to Hezbollah.

    January 3, 2011 :: Jerusalem Post :: News

In the latest Wikileaks revelation, Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi reports to a U.S. congressional delegation in 2009 that Hezbollah has 40,000 rockets that it intends to use in a future conflict with Israel, and Iran has 300 missiles of sufficient range aimed at the Jewish state. A missile launch from Iran would give Israel 10-12 minutes to respond before it reached its target.

It is thought that Hezbollah would fire 300-400 missiles a day into Israel; they also possess a number of UAVs that they might use to strategically bomb Israel. In order to address a worst-case scenario, Israel is thus preparing for a major regional war, again in Lebanon and Gaza, so that it might easily cover lesser contingencies as well. Statements from cables also suggest that a future ground-war in Gaza and Lebanon will be more intense and less restricted than the one of 2006.

Hariri is losing grounds among his followers. He is politically unmatured and yet to develope a thick skin to enable him navigate the very complex Lebanese and regional politics. He mostly relies on very tight Groupthink advisors of whom themselves proxies for regional and international power brokers. That is by the way, is the same for most politicians in Lebanon.

This is to the Lebanese and Lebanese only. How long did you oppress the Shia, turn your back on us, leave us to live with no chances at education and no basic necessities? Why did you invite Israel to bomb our neighborhoods (30, 000 killed in 1982) and occupy our land (Sourh Lebanon) for 18 years with no opposition? You turned your back on us, you hypocrites, and now did you expect to hug and kiss you as though we were best friends? Hizbollah is a terrorist organization funded by the Iranian government. The Islamic Republic of terror openly advocated for the return of the "Hidden Imam" or "Imam Zaman" whom is supposed to come back at the end of time. If Iran had a nuclear weapon knowing that Israel would retaliate and annihilate the Iranian people, they would do it; why? Because Iranian lives mean nothing to them. People want to ignore the real issues by justifying such terrorists jeopardize the existence of the region and even broadly the human race. Lebanese people are for the most part great people with a great history and heritage. Lebanon is majority Christian, not Muslim. Hizbollah is a thorn in the side of the Lebanese people and in the side of all civilized humans. I am an Iranian-American speaking out about this and as someone who has spent considerable time in Iran in the last year. Let's not fool ourselves of the problem: it is religion and it is in particular the Islamic Republic. The Islamic Republic's only hope of keeping power past the next couple of years (protests will again happen in the next fake Presidential elections there) is by starting a war. It is the dream and main objective of the Islamic Republic to start a war within the next 2-3 years.

NOT true...on the contrary, there is voluminous evidence, including a surveillance video and DNA testing that points to one Abu Adas as the assassin, a Lebanese-Palestinian convert to Wahhabism, who claimed responsibility for the deed in the name of an al-Qaeda affiliate, NOT Syria or Iran, or "Hezbollah Islamic terrorists" as you claim. The mainstream media storyline is the exact opposite of the truth. It's a theory hatched by Israel and the U.S., and then "reported" as such by the media, based on the premise that Hariri was killed by a bomb hidden in a previously-unknown underground tunnel, which was detonated by remote control once Hariri’s car reached the appointed spot. The problem with this theory, however, is that no such tunnel exists, or has ever existed. Furthermore, it's clear from the physical evidence that the assassination was carried out by suicide bombing, NOT a remotely controlled explosive device. The aim is really for Israel to keep Lebanon and the entire region in a permanent state of destabilization, and thereby to help Israel to interfere more freely in Lebanon and regain advantage over Hezbollah.

Israel's only interest in Lebanon is to have a quiet northern border – that's all. Israel has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon and never has. The only reason Israel ever entered into Lebanon was to stop PLO and Hezbollah terrorists from attacking Israel. Israel has no interest in destabilization – to the contrary, they want stability and peace to continue to grow their economy and live in a free democracy – something maybe its Arab neighbors should try.

dude, no one cares about the spin you put on your post. the best thing for the Lebanese people would be ridding of PEZzzzBOLAH and these other "democratic " groups. Their is nothing democratic about abusing woman's human rights and strapping bombs onto children. But most importantly, religion is a joke, and what does it make americans, Israelis and Arabs do? fight-war-kill , the complete oppisite of a religion...!

1- Israel has a second interest in Lebanon: keep IN LEBANON the 500 000 Palestinians living in Lebanon and hoping one day they can return to their land in Israel.
2- correction: Israel invaded (not just entered) Lebanon in 1978 and in 1982 to get rid of PLO, this is true. BUT this invasion CREATED Hezbollah as a resistance movement. HA never existed before 1982.

are you mentally retarded? Lebanon has nothing whatsoever to offer Israel. Stop kidding yourself, you aren't Saudi Arabia (even worse). Israel will only attack defensively if you attack it for no reason, get it? You want a rehash of 2006, where your country is (still) held hostage by Hezbollah, these ISLAMIST FASCIST CRAZIES that started that war? Israel will send your country (again) to the STONE AGE if you even launch 1 rocket into it. Stupid idiots.

Well, is this supposed to blame Israel for Hezbollah, though? I mean, otherwise it would still be the PLO kicking around. Hezbollah simply extended the PLO legacy. Inaction in the 80's would have simply allowed Palestinian terrorism to fester and continue from Lebanon (the misguided actions by those who formed Hezbollah is just an unfortunate outcome of the necessary actions by Israel to protect its people).

Blame Hezbollah on Iran, which vows to destroy Israel. Which will never happen. At least Egypt and Jordan learned their lessons (not even a gang up could defeat them). Iran would be sorry for outright attacking Israel, and they know it, so they use their proxy, Hezbollah. The reason the conflict moves on is because the Muslims are sore losers, and drag all the Palestinians into it to use as a buffer and shield (a war crime). As for the statement that Israel is a land grabber, why did they trade the Sinai for peace? It's nothing but propaganda by Jew haters.

Isreal isnt a land grabber? Look at a map of how much palestinian land they stole since 48. Save your propaganda for someone else. No one is buying it. Iran isnt afraid of Isreal even though its strength comes from being backed by a superpower (US). You say Iran is afraid of attacking Isreal, but is isreal not threatened by Iran? By their nuclear program? yet they are too scared to attack them begging the americans to do it. Iran goes nuclear, alot of jew cowards will move to germany, isreal will collapse. The international community is starting to isolate isreal finally.

And then you will wake up, realizing that people living in mud huts with sticks won't be overthrowing anything. You are beyond transparent, and that you bring up someone else's propaganda is laughable. You are walking, talking propaganda with no basis in reality. The people you support murdered and clawed their way into Israel in the 7th century.. It took the world too long to kick them back out.

Were you born yesterday? When a country keeps on attacking another country and the country that was attacked wins, then that country gets the spoils of war. It would be a fraction of its size now if only the Arabs had accepted UN resolution that created Israel and Palestine. It was the Arabs that turned down a Palestinian state so many times. The land that Israel got after winning the wars that it didn't start was to make a buffer. Israel gave back the Sinai with its oil for peace. That alone shatters your lies.

wrong bud, Israel requested Iraq air space from President Bush (jr) to attack Iran nuke sites, but Bush refused to allow Israel military jets. Your claim that Israel is afraid of Iran is a joke, Isreal kicked @ss when fighting multiple middle eastern country as the same time, and whip them in 7 days.

MTN: Jewish people were there as long as Arab/Muslims. If the Palestinians had accepted the original UN plan instead of attacking, they would have been much better off. They did not. 2 wars later, borders have changed to create safety for Israelis, too bad for the Palestinians. Your dream of the downfall of Israel will never happen. Are you Hamas? You sound like it.

Here's how to tell who the REAL land grabbers are.

Prior to 1948, Jews AND Arabs were Palestinians. Prior to that, Jordan was also part of Palestine. Jordan was chopped off and given exclusively to the Arabs. It was recommended that what remained by split along ethnic lines between Jews and Arabs. The Jews agreed. The Arabs refused. The Arabs went to war to try to take the whole thing instead.

Areas which came under Jewish control maintained a large Arab population. Areas which came under Arab control were completely wiped clean of Jews. Well, that wasn't satisfactory, so the Arabs declared another war 19 years later, and lost. Jews moved back in. Jews REMAINING on land is, "expansion," to these idiots.

Jews aren't living anywhere where they weren't living prior to 1948. They're not expanding. In fact, they contracted. Prior to 1948, there were Jews living in Gaza. Now, there isn't a single one living there.

Laffin: Losers will always make up lies to try and reverse their loss, no matter how futile. Pride. Pride is killing Palestinians who are used as shields by Hamas and Hezbollah to attack Israel. Their attempt to drag Israel into the bloody mud with them has failed, and failed and failed. When will the Palestinians who just want to live in peace get rid of those parasites?

Let me show you who the land grabbers are with the example of 7 Lebanese Villages taken by Israel. Tarbikha was assualted in Operation Hiram, and the unarmed residents were forced to leave, the village was later settled by Hungarian Jews. Saliha, another village, was taken by Israel forces in 1948; 94 unarmed Lebanese from the village were forced into a mosque and slaughtered by the 7th Brigade. Margaliot was taken after 400 Lebanese surrendere but were subsequently attacked by the IDF, who killed numerous civillians and forced the rest to flee.Malikya, Nabi Yusha, Hunin villagers were forced to flee by the millitary. These are only 7 villages in Lebanon, there are thousands that were taken from the Palestinians further south. Who is the land grabber, again?

Regardless of who really killed Harriri, Israel and the US will never accept anything less than having both Hezbollah and Syria as the only culprits benind this crime. Many indicators have brought other players into question such as Israel and Al-qaeda, but the US stubbornly continues to indict Hezbollah and covertly Syria. The reason behind Israel's and the US's sickening position stem from a shortsighted analysis that, once Hezbollah is indicted, Lebanese would rise against it paving the way for the Israeli army to march unchallanged to Beirut. This is the senario, both Israel and the US have in mind. All sober analyses have concluded that the only beneficiary fom this tragedy is ISRAEL, and that justice should be to call upon investigating Israel instead.

    Paranoid much?
Actually, the US would love this to be Iran through Syria without touching Hezbollah, since that would make the move as unpopular as possible in the Sunni Arab world. (Where Iran and Syria are just more corrupt dictatorships while Hezbollah is a noble force out to destroy Israel. If Hezbollah killed Hariri, he must have been a Zionist pawn who deserved to die for it. If Iran or Syria did, he was a nationalist hero murdered by the corrupt old order/Persian menace.)
