Last year more than 5,000 spectators enjoyed two days of thrilling motorsport at London's Crystal Palace. Now a major motor dealer group has announced a three-year sponsorship package for the event.
Ancaster Group, which has been established in the south London area for more than 50 years, said it was backing the "exciting" project while also using it to showcase its own cars.
Motorsport at the Palace took place over the Bank Holiday weekend of May 30 and 31, with an eclectic range of vehicles sprinting along the 700-metre course snaking through Crystal Palace Park. Cars racing against the clock included Lotus Cortinas, Minis, Aston Martins, Healey Sprites, Porsche 911s, Chevrolet Corvettes and even a 1903 Humber Humberette.
The sprints included hilly and wooded sections of the scenic parkland and incorporated sections once driven by stars such as Jim Clark, Stirling Moss, James Hunt, Jackie Stewart and John Surtees.
During last year's event Ancaster Group displayed its full range of Fiat and Nissan cars and commercial vehicles.
"We are always keen to get involved in our local community and this agreement gave us the chance to support a very exciting project, whilst giving Ancaster Group the perfect stage to showcase our exciting product range," said Stephen Wood, the group's managing director.
"Ancaster Group is delighted to be sponsoring the show over the next three years. We're looking forward to another thoroughly enjoyable and action-packed bank holiday weekend in 2011," he added.
