But, for many expats living in sunny climes, January’s also depressing for a different reason: It’s when you have to say goodbye to relatives with whom you’ve spent the festive season. Whether you’re being left or doing the leaving, waving farewell to family, especially to elderly parents, is never easy. True, expat life has its benefits, but along with the (hopefully) improved salary and the (hopefully) better climate, there’s the challenge of living away from family.
