The Cumberland Plateau supports physical, biological, and cultural landscapes that are some of the richest and most diverse in the United States. The physical landscape is described by its geographical setting, climate, geology and soils, topography, and hydrology. Vegetation classification and description and forest community descriptions characterize the biological landscape. The Cumberland Plateau has been shaped by human inhabitants whose disturbances have created the cultural landscape of the region.
