The identities of a woman and her daughter who were found dead in their Columbia apartment were made public Monday.

Candra M. Alston, 25, and her 3 1/2-year-old daughter, Malaysia Boykin, are the homicide victims, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.

Neither Watts nor Columbia police would release more details about what happened.

They would not discuss the cause of death, where inside their Brook Pines apartment the pair were found, and how someone entered the unit.

“We’re not being secretive about anything,” police spokesman Brick Lewis said. “We just don’t want to jeopardize the investigation.”

No arrest had been made by late Monday, officials said.

Police were called to 195 Brook Pines Drive by Alston’s relatives, after they found the bodies Sunday, Lewis said. Family members worried after they had not heard from Alston, Watts said.

Results of autopsies will be made public “within a couple of days.” Watts said.
