A Richland County school resource officer has been rehired after domestic violence charges against him were dismissed, Sheriff Leon Lott said today.

Charges against Antonio Sessions, 25, were dropped last month.

Sessions, who lived in Lexington County, was terminated last May after that county’s deputies arrested him. He was accused of pushing his wife to the floor and choking her during an argument. Lexington County deputies arrested Sessions after his wife called 911 from a neighbor's apartment and reported the fight.

Lott said that the department had to terminate Sessions after he was arrested because he can’t continue working if there’s an outstanding criminal charge against him.

An internal investigation by his department indicated there wasn’t enough evidence for the criminal charges against Sessions to stand, said Lott.

However, Lott said, the department couldn’t hire Sessions again until the charges against him were formally dropped.

Sessions became a Richland County school resource officer in June 2009.
