Not even winter weather can deter city cyclists. Montreal has a 35-kilometre network of bicycle routes, called the reseau blanc, that is often cleared of snow during the winter months.

Bicycle use has increased by as much as 40 per cent since 2008 in areas of Montreal where the city has invested in bike paths or lanes, according to a new McGill University study.

Lachine's Victoria St. is much prized

Q: We have a problem in Lachine, because drivers use Victoria St. as an express lane when Highway 20 is jammed, morning and night. There is a need for public transport from the South Shore to the West Island. One just has to look at the traffic coming off the Mercier Bridge ramp. There could be buses and trains to the West Island from the South Shore.

South Shore commuters in for rude awakening on Jan. 1

Q. I have a Reseau de transport de Longueuil monthly bus pass, and when I want to take the metro into Montreal I buy Societe de transport de Montreal tickets -six at a time -and have access to the entire metro/bus system. With the new fare changes coming in the new year at the Longueuil metro, will I need to buy different tickets other than the ones I buy now in order to access the metro system from the Longueuil station?

Safety an issue at free parking lot in Terrebonne: AMT

For the last several years, I've been a good girl by doing the public transit thing and of late I've run into some parking issues. My commute is from Mascouche to downtown. I drive my car from my home in Mascouche to the Terrebonne bus terminus, where I hop on a bus to the new Laval metro. I know, it's exhausting just writing about it.

What do you think about the TVs in métro stations?
Informative, passes the time

Glad they tell you when the next train is

Too much information in my face

I haven’t noticed them

A tale of two airport train shuttles

Both airports are 20 or so kilometres west of their respective downtown cores, and both are close to train tracks used by commuter trains. But that's where similarities end between planned airport train shuttles for Montreal's Trudeau and Toronto's Pearson airports.

Hong Kong gets a grip on ex-Montrealers

Montreal has ways of holding people, and sending them away. It seemed somehow inevitable that Christopher DeWolf would leave, he being one of the most neighbourhood-conscious young Montrealers I met upon my own return in 2004, after an absence of seven years.
