Premier League - Snow wrecks schedule
Only two Premier League matches survived the big freeze in Britain, with games at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Wigan and Birmingham among those called off.
Arsenal's clash with Stoke at the Emirates fell after a late pitch inspection, with Birmingham's game with Newcastle postponed shortly before kick-off.
Wigan's game with Aston Villa at the DW Stadium was the first to go, followed by the late afternoon kick-off between Liverpool and boss Roy Hodgson's former club Fulham at Anfield.
Chelsea's much-anticipated clash with Manchester United on Sunday has also been postponed, as have Sunday's lunchtime clashes which would have seen West Bromwich Albion's Midlands derby against Wolves and Blackpool's hosting of Tottenham.
All the other professional leagues in Britain were ruined by the weather, with only one League One game surviving, no League Two matches going ahead and two SPL games surviving the snow and ice. The League One match between Exeter and Sheffield Wednesday only went ahead thanks to the efforts of fans who volunteered to help clear the snow.
The Championship came off best, with just four matches postponed - though Ipswich v Leicester was delayed several times during the game for stewards to shovel snow off the pitch.

From an English football fan across the pond who actually knows your football:
Great of those fans to help clear the snow in that L1 tie. Here? They'd never volunteer to begin with, and even if they did, the grounds crew would tell them to go toss it. They'd be afraid one of the volunteers would have a heart attack and lay charges against the team for letting him work. You think there's too much litigation in the USA? :p
Two sides to every story, the snow saved the Russian Mafia trainees, and it's time to talk about a winter break, after all the season does go on into June during the during World Cup!
Support for QATAR 2022 and it will get stronger.
bunch a fairys, even little kids play out in the snow
lets hope it doesnt snow for the 2012 olympics eh, ahahhaha flagship city my arse.
we want more snow, it will be nice to see yooniteds paper thin squad cope with a fixture backlog . let it snow let it snow let it snow
never mind cos united will lose the game against blackpool and chelsea shame on them park ji sung is off and no one will rescue them. Not even inconsistent berbaflop and the peeping shrek.
218-Steve, I can understand why those 3 families made the snowmen clear the football pitches, it was their mess after all !
@218 I saw three snowmen do the same at another ground im never touching them mushrooms again.
And who knows, Abramovich probably had a snow machine secretly assembled off the North Sea somewhere, and wind machines blowing it in. Is there nothing that can stop that man??
I saw 3 families making snowmen clear a football pitch in a couple of hours, so how come a team like Chelsea can't do it in 24hrs? They just know they are not in form, and it was a dangerous time to play United. Shame on you.
@215 The winter break is not worth implementing as global warming takes place this time in ten years we will be all sunbathig on Blackpool prom lol. If the scientist let us beleive.
Forget who you support how the hell do the Rugby games all go ahead today and yesterday , Ipswich play in a blizzard but Chelsea call a game off more than 24 hours before the game's due to start. Shame on you Chelsea, Shame on the Old Bill, Shame on the Referee, Shame on the Premier League, and Shame on who ever else is responsible for the Awful decision. You have upset my Sunday afternoon.
I think a winter break should be implemented. This would benifit players and fans when the snow keeps on coming every year.
Just hope City's game against Everton is on (keep away snow) it would be great seeing City at the top of the Premier at christmas if we beat the Toffees, and a bit of trivia, it would be the first time in 81 years that the Blues have topped the table on christmas day. C'mon City don't f*** it all up.

Silly health & Safety going over the top again , I can see a fixture pile up next month its not good. United already have Blackpool away now Chelsea away whats up its only a bit of snow.
Did anyone see the Ipswitch game and most Premier League pitches has underground heating to it cant be that bad.
