TUF 12 Standout Cody McKenzie Draws Yves Edwards Next
By Matt EricksonPosted: 12/08/2010 12:19 PM ET
After making quick work of Aaron Wilkinson in his UFC debut on Saturday, Cody McKenzie won't waste any time getting back in the cage.
The cast member of Season 12 of "The Ultimate Fighter" will step in to face Yves Edwards at the UFC's Fight for the Troops event at Fort Hood, Texas, on Jan. 22. He'll take the place of Melvin Guillard, who now moves up to fight Evan Dunham after Kenny Florian was forced to withdraw with an injury. The McKenzie news was first reported by MMA Junkie, and MMA Fighting has confirmed the lightweight's participation in the fight with sources close to his camp.

Stefan Struve: I'll Talk to McCorkle on Saturday, and It Won't Take Long
By Ben FowlkesPosted: 12/08/2010 11:36 AM ET
The last time Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve was in the Octagon, things got off to a pretty terrible start. Even before he stepped in the cage at UFC 117 back in August, he already knew it was going to be a rough night.
It started with a light-headed feeling, then a little dizziness, and then some vomiting, all within a couple hours of fight time. This was all due to a bad case of nerves, the 22-year-old Struve said. After getting knocked out in his previous effort against Roy Nelson, he knew he needed to win this one. He let the pressure get to him, and it left him in a weakened state by the time he stepped in against Christian Morecraft in Oakland, Calif.
"The first few minutes of the fight were okay, and then all my energy was gone," Struve told MMA Fighting. "I just thought, this is not going to be good."

Josh Koscheck Hypes Fight on ESPN, Predicts Early Knockout
By Michael David SmithPosted: 12/08/2010 11:00 AM ET
Josh Koscheck's appearance on ESPN Wednesday morning was a good example of the right way for a fighter to sell his upcoming fight to an audience that might be on the fence about watching it, as he promised in a SportsCenter interview to deliver the kind of exciting finish that casual fans are hoping to see when they decide whether to buy a pay-per-view.
"I believe that I'm going to win this fight," Koscheck said. "I'm going to knock Georges St. Pierre out, either in Round 2 or 3."
Koscheck has spent plenty of time talking to the MMA media in the lead-up to this fight, but those interviews aren't as important to the UFC's bottom line: If you're an MMA fan, you're going to buy UFC 124 whether you see a Koscheck interview or not. Much more important is the kind of interview like Koscheck had on SportsCenter, where he was talking to fans who don't regularly watch the UFC.

Marlon Sandro vs. Hatsu Hioki Booked for Sengoku Soul of Fight
By Daniel HerbertsonPosted: 12/08/2010 02:03 AM ET
Sengoku Raiden Championship promoter World Victory Road announced four fights on Wednesday for its end-of-year "Soul Of Fight" event including the biggest featherweight bout in Japan for the year; Shooto Champion Hatsu Hioki will take on Sengoku featherweight champion Marlon Sandro in the Brazilian's first title defense.
Aside from controversial split decision losses to Michihiro Omigawa, both Sandro and Hioki have torn through the competition within Sengoku over the last two years, both earning consensus top-ten rankings.
Also announced: Kazuo Misaki will return for the first time since his thrilling fight of the year candidate with middleweight champion Jorge Santiago to face Mike Seal; Yukio Sakaguchi will come out of retirement in a SRC "jacket rules" bout against Jin Suk Jung; and New Japan Kickboxing Champion Norihiro "Musashi" Miyamoto and WPMF champion Hiroki Komata will clash under Muay Thai rules.

Sean McCorkle Says Struve Jokes Are Nothing Personal, Just a Way to Get Paid
By Ben FowlkesPosted: 12/07/2010 11:19 AM ET
First things first: Sean McCorkle did not talk his way into the UFC. He's heard that version of events floating around the internet and he'd like to clear the air. As much as he'd like it to be the case that his over-the-top online persona got him a UFC contract, he knows it's more about his fighting ability than his sense of humor, no matter what other people might say.
"I think they mean it as an insult, but I think it's hilarious," said McCorkle. "You're telling me that I'm so talented at talking in interviews that it got me into the UFC? Really? I mean, [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva told me when I first met him, 'I just want you to know that we love your internet stuff, but that's not the reason you're in the UFC.' I kind of said, 'Darn it, I was hoping that it was.'"
But as long as he's here anyway, he might as well have a little fun. That's why, ever since he accepted a fight with Dutch heavyweight Stefan Struve at UFC 124 in Montreal, McCorkle's personal Twitter has featured an almost constant barrage of stinging one-liners aimed directly at Struve.
