The England midfielder chipped the ball over the head of German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (video below), but was not awarded a goal by referee Jorge Labbadia after the shot appeared to hit the crossbar and bounce downward beyond the goal line. Television replays showed Lampard's strike landing about a yard behind the goal line, before spinning back into play.
The shot came moments after a Matthew Upson tally brought the Three Lions within a goal. Lampard's appeared to tie the match with his strike, but no signal came from the referee.
It's a moment that will surely go down in the pantheon of England's tragic World Cup mishaps. Germany went on to win 4-1, and advance to the quarterfinals.

Fifa need to arrange for better adjudication at such important games. Germany still deserved to win but having a goal not awarded does make a difference.
I agree with you but mostly wanted to say would AOL please stop saying UK fans are upset - NO, the UK includes other countries who probably could care less we were unceremoniously stomped all over by the Germans - yes, we, the English team - my team, the team that had a goal disallowed but seriously, who cares, our defense sucked, the German team was all over us like a cheap suit. Germany is a classy, young, scoring on the rebound team, they could go all the way. My choice now would be Ghana, those guys are giant killers, love to see them go all the way to the end too. But please, at least one country in the UK will be laughing at the English team right now (and I mean Scotland), and they are probably glad we are out because they didn't make it - so don't say the team was the UK team, they were the English team!
It's time there was za 5th official that can overrule the call on the field after he looks at the replay. This disallowed goal directly led to Germany's other two goals. England had to come out and seek the tying goal by pushing everyone up and rsking the counter attack - and that's precisely how Germany scored. If the game had been tied Capello would have deployed a different strategy and played more conservatively.
"This disallowed goal directly led to Germany's other two goals"... Really Javier? One missed goal led to TWO goals? Germany was the better team today, that was obvious, and to say that the "UK" is ticked off is ridiculous, even more ridiculous if that were the truth... England lost by 3 goals, not one. England has not played up to expectations the entire tournament. I'm sure most fans in England would agree as to who played the better match today. Congrats to Germany.
Yes Eric, it did!! Are youa soccer player?? Well, I am and I'm also a nationally licensed coach. If you knew anything about the tactical aspects of the game you would understand my statement.
At this World Cup,the level of play has distinctly passed by the level of officiating. How many bad calls affected big games??
Anyone at FIFA ever heard of instant replay?
While remaning a purist,it is time this game enters the new millenium.
Who cares, the world would be a much better place without watching sports. While most people are wasting prescious time sitting on the couch acting as if the world will come to an end if their team loses (beleive me it won't), smart people are spending time with their family or doing something productive with their lives. Get a life people.
Sounds like somone got cut from there high school team way backk.... are you kidding me man watching sports is bad ... get rid of it...? Really just because you dont like sports doesnt mean we should get rid of it sports supplies jobs to many people its an industry gtfo
THAT'S RIGHT!!! Get A Life People!!!
You should be like Sandlunatic01 and sit in front of your computer and spend your time making comments about something you have absolutely no interest in and know nothing about!! Yeah, that's livin large!! *jerk*
Not to mention, if you consider yourself one of these "smart people" then you should learn to spell. Also, learning to construct proper sentences would be great, too. Just because you don't get it, doesn't mean that sports don't do a great deal of good for our world. Look at the Olympics and the World Cup, can you name another moment where people from all over the world join together for the same thing? I can't.
I imagine you and your family wrote this together... GET A LIFE !!!!
Why are you spending your time reading articles about sports? I mean, if you didn't waste your time trolling such articles maybe you could take the time to learn to spell.
Tell "sib" that when he learned to "construct proper sentences", he seemed to miss the lesson on run-on sentences. Typical soccer moron.
Even though there ARE more important things in the world than sports, you sound like all sports should be banned from the earth. That's nonsense! First off, we don't really NEED movies, TV, music, art, or many other things. Should we get rid of all of those things too? Secondly, sports provides jobs to thousands & thousands of people. Lastly, who says that many families don't watch sports together, thereby spending "quality time" with loved ones...?? Maybe it's YOU that needs to get a life. And as one other person here said, if you don't WATCH sports, why are you even reading this article??
Yes, people are wasting precious time when they could be doing something constructive....like learning to spell.
We have a life that it is called DIVERSITY OF LIFE. And we don't care too much about living in a bubble surrendered only with our family in our houses. So someone else should GET A LIFE!
Hey Jmartinlegal -- Did you ever learn about sentence fragments???
Like what? spending family time typing on a blog...what a bum! Took a break from playing world of warcraft?
....Yes, lets all sit on aol, not spend time with the family, read the aol sports pages anyway and then respond like a self-righteous twat who can't spell precious. There are two 'l's' in illiterate my precious - and smart people know that.
First the goal taken away from the USA against Solvenia, and now Lampard's goal for England???? Wow! I think this was most poorly officiating that I've ever seen in any sport!
