Is every 'mom and pop' outfit sponsoring a 'bowl'! It's getting silly!
I agree...its like every team in the top 50 gets a consolation prize...this is plain stupid...I also agree with Nancy Nance...next yr a lot more people will be dropping their satellite/cable coverage after their contract is up(I am one of them)...and this is the reason why...ESPN pays more than the networks to cover the game and passes the cost on to the provider who passes it on to you and me...this is why your bill goes up 2 to 3 times/yr
Only 3 games on network TV and 2 of those I could care less about! The assumption is that all are now capable of getting ESPN...wrong! No Rose Bowl to watch on New Year's Day!?! Suppose there will be no televised parade either. It's tradition around here. Now too expensive for network TV to broadcast or what?
I agree Nancy. I remember when a bowl game was a reward for doing a great job during the season. If you wanted to go to a bowl game, you had to earn it, now if you finish mid pack you still can go to the Viagra Teeny Weeny Bowl, the X-Lax Colon Bowl or something equally rediculous. It started going downhill when Corporations got involved. I have health issues and live on a fixed income, I can't afford cable TV and ESPN sure kicked the stuffing out of my New Years Day.
I think this list of bowl games speaks for itself.I believe is the destruction of college football tradition. The Rose Bowl game has for many years been between the Pac 10 & the Big 10. Who cares about TCU playing Wisconsin. It should be either Oregon or Stanford playing Wisconsin. I doubt I will watch this bowl game because it has become down sized for the sake of money. Don't get me wrong I like money. However, these match ups are destroying college tradition. When a current player 30 years from now goes back to a class reunion & is asked about his football experiences & has to say he was with Wisconsin & played TCU VS a school like Stanford, USC or Oregon, he will get a reply Why? Too bad money is ruining college football. We have the Pros for that. Why screw up college tradition. No wonder college kids try to get some money when they see everyone else making money off him. This is pure greed.

Am I the only one who thinks Boise State may have gotten completely shafted. I know they lost a close one to Nevada, but a little extreme don't you think. The MAACO Bowl, really?
yes you are the only one...surprised you didn't get the Humanitarian bowl (played on your own field)
Any idiot that doesn't think Boise State did not get shafted has got to be a fan of one of those overated Big Ten, ACC, Big twelve, SEC conferences. Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan State, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Texas , Oklahoma and certainly most all of the Pac 10 would have a hard time keeping up with Boise State, TCU and Utah. The only team Boise State lost to was Nevada , another ranked school the so called big conferences would not want to play. Face it, the west has better football and the east is just hanging on to some artificial right to be ranked higher until proven different. It is just like Utah got the shaft two years ago when they were undefeated and wiped out Alabama so bad it was embarrasing to watch. Up until they lost to Flotida in the SEC championship Alabama had been considered a top two team. It got Utah no where in the rankings. Maybe these "BIG Conference Teams should be forced to play BYU, UTAH, TCU and Boise State every year. That will never happen because they have to much to lose and under performing coaches like at Ohio State will be forced to keep their unjustfied big mouths shut.
Yeah because Boise State sucks. They got beat by Nevada, okay. They don't belong in a BCS bowl because they have a TERRIBLE schedule. Once they play a decent opponent, and win, then they should belong in a BCS bowl.
No you're not the only one who thinks BOISE STATE got the SHAFT [their record was nearly perfect] , they should've been able to play in the Rose Bowl, but because the mayor of the state of California doesn't want a second rate team playing in one of the MOST STORIED GAMES IN HISTORY Boise got shafted. I just hope next year they do things right & HAVE A PLAYOFF
In my humble opinion the only reason that WVU didn't win the Big East was that Coach Stewart didn't have what seemed to be a good offense anywhere near ready until halfway through the season. What a shame for both his team and the Orange Bowl as a WVU/VT game would have been a great match-up of great rivals and a sure sell-out that would have gotten a lot of regional interest. I'm sure some people are happy with WVU's finish but I watched most of theit games and WVU did not look well coached against UConn or Syracuse. The team deserved better coaching than what they seemed to have gotten, especially Geno Smith, who seemed reluctant to run until the Rutgers game. From what I saw, I suspect he was told to focus on passing rather than to take running oportunities. You should be coached to be smart and to take what is given to you as he did more of in the Pitt game. I'm sure some people will disagree with me, but that's how I saw it.
Am personally glad to see Army, Navy and Air Force all qualified and scheduled to play . While it is true that the education and training of these young men has been funded by the taxpayer they, upon graduation, will be off serving the Nation and perhaps in harms' way.
Cannot say that for the majority of these student- athletes.
WATCH THE BOWLS AND YOU WILL SEE WHY SEC IS RANKED THEY WIN MORE BOWL GAMES THAN THE REST DIV. AUBURN,MISS ST,ALA,GA,SOUTH CAR.,TENN,WILL ALL WIN FLA MIGHT LOSE HELL EVEN KENTUCKY WILL WIN THEY DO IT EVER YEAR JUST LIKE HAWAII WAS SO GOOD
TOO MANY BOWLS ........ PERIOD
Terry it sounds like your the freakin idiot. Everybody knows that Alabama lost to Utah simple because their heart wasnt in that game. They new they shouldn't have let that SEC championship slip away and wanted to play in the BCS title game. We seen what they could do the next year when they had the oppurtunity. I'm SICK and tired of hearing about Boise St. Put them in the SEC for a few years with that schedule and see how many years they go undefeated. Hell they didn't even go undefeated in their own pittiful conference this year. And you think they can play with the big boys? Yea maybe one game a year. So what. Anybody can be beat on a given day. But lets see them do it in a good conference. Do you even know how many ranked teams Bama or Auburn had to beat this year to get where they are? Probably not, your too busy wining about Boise getting shafted. They beat ONE average team this year, and lost to the other. What a joke to even consider them being as good as Alabama. Get into a GOOD conference and win consistantly for two or three years. Then you can say you did something. Until then just be quite and quite your whining.
WHO THE HECK IS MAKING THESE BOWLS UP. ALL THE MORE NEED FOR A PLAYOFF SYSTEM.
Terry. Truth be told Boise state is good but no where near what they were talked up to be. They play loser schools they blew a 17 pt. lead at the half. Ya you had a chance to win if the kicker didnt blow it. Or how about your def. completely shutting down and playing like girls. Why do people like you even try. Shut up. stick to what you know like tennis or curling or peeling potatoes whatever you people do for fun. Leave football to people who know alittle bit more about the game. Not alot more just people that have higher than a 2nd grade education. That leaves you out. Sorry.
Everyone loves to make jokes about Boise State and especially now that we lost by a field goal to Nevada, but I wonder how many of you have actually been to a BSU game or watched a complete game on television. Every team has a bad game, even Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, etc. Your comment for BSU to stick to what they know like curling or peeling potatoes is pure ignorance on your part. Obviously, you are the one with the 2nd grade education to even make a comment like that. Every year Boise State puts together a football team without the big recruiting name we play with a football budget of 4.5 million versus the 40+ million the SEC and other conferences receive and in the last 5 years have only lost 5 games. How many teams can say the same. As for playing in a real conference, that is not our decision, we have to be invited to these conferences and so far only the Mountain West has extended that invitation. I think BSU would love to be in a bigger and more competitive (automatic qualifying) conference. That would give us better recruiting a bigger football budget and maybe just maybe shut people like you up, who know nothing about BSU football.
Go frogs !!!! TCU is awesome !!!
BSU just needs to schedule 4 bigs for their non-conference games. Oregon, Oklahoma, LSU, and Ohio State should do. Beat these guys and you will convince us.
