MALAGA, Spain (AP) -- Malaga will sign former Sevilla midfielder Vincenzo Maresca on an 18-month contract, subject to the player passing a medical.

Maresca will undergo medical tests on Thursday but will only be able to play for his new club when the transfer window opens in January.

The 30-year-old Italian left Sevilla to join Olympiakos in 2009, but dissolved his contract with the Greek club before the start of the current season and has recently been training with former club Fiorentina in Italy.

Maresca was part of Sevilla's most illustrious run in club history as it won two UEFA Cups, one European Supercup and a Copa del Rey in recent years.

Malaga is currently 17th with 13 points -- three away from the relegation zone.
