Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) hosted its eighth annual Gran Turismo Awards at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, celebrating automotive design excellence and showcasing the latest franchise offering, Gran Turismo 5. After reviewing more than 100 entries, the judging panel and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself, crowned Best Hot Rod winner, Mark Stielow for his 1969 Chevy Camaro as the 2010 "Best in Show."

Continuing to innovate in the 3D television space, ESPN Research + Analytics unveiled today one of the most in-depth studies on 3D TV to date.  Compiling results from more than 1,000 testing sessions and 2,700 lab hours, ESPN has concluded that fans are comfortable with the medium and even enjoy it more than programming in HD.  The research was conducted by Dr. Duane Varan, professor of New Media at Murdoch University, during ESPN’s coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup at the Disney Media and Ad Lab in Austin, Texas.

After kicking 3D butt on the big screen to the tune of $278 million, Milla Jovovich is taking the action home on Blu-ray 3D. On December 28th Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will unleash the deadly T-virus into homes everywhere when Resident Evil: Afterlife hits Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD. The Blu-ray 3D will flood veins with adrenaline and kick viewers into survival mode in 1080p high definition 3D, optimized for the latest 3D playback devices and eyewear, but also including a backwards-compatible 2D version of the film that plays on all existing Blu-ray players. For those who prefer their zombies safely in two dimensions, Resident Evil: Afterlife will also be offered on 2D Blu-ray and DVD the same day. Sony Computer Entertainment America has shipped Invizimals for PSP. Developed by Novarama and Sony’s Liverpool Studio, Invizimals enables players to find, capture and battle virtual monsters hiding throughout the real-world environment by incorporating a camera for the PSP system (included with the game). Players can point the camera behind sofas, into corners, and under bushes to find virtual monsters on their PSP system screen. Once captured, players take their creatures into battle for a unique, handheld augmented reality experience.

Just in time for the storied Daytona 500 in February 2011, Activision and independent game developer Eutechnyx are bringing NASCAR The Game 2011 to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. After EA Sports drove away from its exclusive NASCAR game license a few years ago, gamers have had no new NASCAR options. Writer/director/producer Paul W.S. Anderson has parlayed his love of videogames into a successful film career. His low-budget Resident Evil video game adaptation launched a film franchise that has no end in sight. Resident Evil: Afterlife has generated over $86 million worldwide at the box office so far. The director, who also brought the AVP: Alien vs. Predator and Mortal Kombat game franchises to the big screen, has had success infusing films like Event Horizon and Death Race with action and horror elements from games.

Sony Pictures fourth film topped the weekend box office with over $27.7 million in the U.S. The number one movie was buoyed by the 3D ticket sales.
