It’s Game On for New NHL Season

HELSINKI – Videogames are a global force. The NHL kicked off its 2010-11 season with a trio of NHL Premiere Series regular season match-ups throughout Europe. The 2006 Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes took on the Minnesota Wild at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki Finland for a pair of games. EA Sports promoted its latest NHL 11 game throughout the event. The Canes ended up sweeping the two-game series on October 7 and 8, defeating the Wild 4-3 the first night and then winning in an overtime shootout 2-1 the second night.

Electronic Arts Removes Playable Taliban from Medal of Honor

After negative publicity from the military and families of soldiers, Electronic Arts has pulled the Taliban from its multiplayer gameplay in Medal of Honor. The new shooter, which is the first Mature-rated game in the franchise, brings the action from WWII to modern day Afghanistan. In the multiplayer gameplay, gamers would choose between American soldiers and Taliban fighters to engage in multiplayer online arenas. Microsoft Delays Epic Games' Blockbuster Gears of War 3 to Fall 2011

Microsoft has pushed back the release of Epic Games' third installment of Gears of War until Fall 2011. The Xbpox 360 game was originally given an April 5 release date by Epic Games’ design director Cliff Bleszinski. This new launch date will give some breathing room between Epic’s other big shooter, Bulletstorm, which is currently still on track for a February 22, 2011 release from Electronic Arts for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Electronic Arts is giving players a chance to play one of the big games of 2010, Medal of Honor, on PC early with the Multiplayer Open Beta. Starting on October 4, the Open Beta will allow players an opportunity to sample Medal of Honor’s rich multiplayer mode before the full game launches on October 12. For a limited time, PC gamers worldwide are invited to sample two diverse maps and two action-packed multiplayer modes.
