Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops has raked in $360 million in its first 24 hours, breaking the record Modern Warfare 2 had established last year with Modern Warfare 2. The game sold 5.6 million copies on November 9 in North America and the United Kingdom. Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 sold 4.7 million copies in its first 24 hours. The most anticipated launch of the year is here. Activision has launched Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops at retail stores worldwide. The Call of Duty: Black Ops’ launch follows a record-setting number of midnight openings worldwide, as thousands of retail outlets opened their doors at midnight to deliver the first copies. Michael Pachter, videogame analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities, forecasts that the new game will sell 13 million copies this year and 17 million copies overall worldwide.

Bethesda Softworks, a ZeniMax Media company, announced that Fallout: New Vegas has enjoyed record sales since it launched on October 19. Bethesda has shipped five million units of the new role-playing game for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Bethesda said the game has generated over $300 million in retail sales. In addition, the Fallout: New Vegas strategy guide was one of Amazon’s best sellers among all books.

Treyarch is ready to enlist gamers from around the globe to enter the Cold War. GameStop, the world’s largest videogame and entertainment software retailer, will host events at 4,408 of its stores Monday, Nov. 8, 2010 leading up to the midnight release of the year’s most anticipated entertainment launch, Activision Publishing’s Call of Duty: Black Ops. This represents the largest number of stores opened for a midnight launch event in GameStop history.

Electronic Arts is offering PC gamers more free Battlefield gameplay. From the makers of the hit arcade shooter Battlefield Heroes comes an all-new entry in the free to play market, this time featuring photo-real characters, environments, weapons and maps. EA will ship Battlefield Play4Free, a deep PC shooter featuring signature Battlefield vehicular warfare, sandbox gameplay and intense 32-player online battles, in spring 2011.

While Joey Logano and the No. 20 GameStop Toyota raced to a fourth place finish in the Lone Star State for the O'Reilly Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway, the real news for gamers is what Logano said about Gran Turismo 5 in a press release. Logano, who is featured along with his car in the new NASCAR portion of GT5, said he was looking forward to playing the final version of the game later this month. Logano has played early versions of the game during development and worked with Sony on the NASCAR portion of the game, along with drivers like Jeff Gordon.

LAS VEGAS – Videogame simulation met real-world car design in Las Vegas. Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) hosted its eighth annual Gran Turismo Awards at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, celebrating automotive design excellence and showcasing the latest franchise offering, Gran Turismo 5. After reviewing more than 100 entries, the judging panel and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi himself, crowned Best Hot Rod winner, Mark Stielow for his 1969 Chevy Camaro as the 2010 "Best in Show."

Disney Publishing Worldwide has launched its Disney Epic Mickey App for viewing Disney Digicomics on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch on the App store. The first Disney Digicomic available in the app is “Tales of Wasteland,” which comprise six eight-page short comic stories that take place in Wasteland, an alternate world made up of Disney’s forgotten creative efforts. Users get a preview of Wasteland and feature characters from the upcoming Disney Epic Mickey video game, including Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney’s first cartoon star. During a Microsoft earnings call, the company announced that Halo: Reach generated $350 million during the first 16 days of launch worldwide. The game earned $200 million in its first 24 hours. While Microsoft did not specify the number of units sold in the first 16 days, the game likely topped 5 million copies factoring in the three different price points for special editions of the new title. Ubisoft is gearing up for the release of its videogame release -- Michael Jackson The Experience. To celebrate Halloween, the game maker has unmasked “Thriller” as one of the latest songs for the soundtrack that’s shaping up to be a Best of Michael Jackson collection. “Rock with You,” “Ghost,” ‘Smooth Criminal,’ ‘Black or White’ and ‘They Don’t Care About Us,” are also featured song. Electronic Arts is offering gamers more Medal of Honor shooting action on November 2, 2010. The new mode called Hot Zone features “King of the Hill” gameplay where teams fight over a designated location on a map; the team who holds their position longest prevails. This adrenaline-fueled mode is playable across two all-new maps (Hindukush Pass and Korengal Outpost) as well as redesigned versions of the popular Shahikot Valley and Helmand Valley multiplayer maps. Hot Zone will be available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 MS points, on PlayStation Network for $9.99 and on PC exclusively via the EA Store for $9.99.
