Electronic Arts is offering PC gamers more free Battlefield gameplay. From the makers of the hit arcade shooter Battlefield Heroes comes an all-new entry in the free to play market, this time featuring photo-real characters, environments, weapons and maps. EA will ship Battlefield Play4Free, a deep PC shooter featuring signature Battlefield vehicular warfare, sandbox gameplay and intense 32-player online battles, in spring 2011.

During a Microsoft earnings call, the company announced that Halo: Reach generated $350 million during the first 16 days of launch worldwide. The game earned $200 million in its first 24 hours. While Microsoft did not specify the number of units sold in the first 16 days, the game likely topped 5 million copies factoring in the three different price points for special editions of the new title. Electronic Arts is offering gamers more Medal of Honor shooting action on November 2, 2010. The new mode called Hot Zone features “King of the Hill” gameplay where teams fight over a designated location on a map; the team who holds their position longest prevails. This adrenaline-fueled mode is playable across two all-new maps (Hindukush Pass and Korengal Outpost) as well as redesigned versions of the popular Shahikot Valley and Helmand Valley multiplayer maps. Hot Zone will be available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace for 800 MS points, on PlayStation Network for $9.99 and on PC exclusively via the EA Store for $9.99.

Random House Publishing Group has greenlit a novel based on THQ’s and Kaos Studio’s 2011 first-person shooter game, Homefront. The novel is set in the Homefront universe and co-written by John Milius (Red Dawn and Oscar Award-winning Apocalypse Now) and New York Times bestselling author Raymond Benson (author of two Metal Gear Solid books and multiple James Bond novels). The book will be published by Random House’s Del Rey imprint, and arrive in early 2011 to coincide with the release of the first Homefront game.

CARY, North Carolina – Epic Games lifted the veil off the multiplayer options for its much-anticipated Gears of War 3 at its newly-expanded Cary, North Carolina headquarters. One of the big games of 2011 will come home early, despite the recent five-month delay for the Xbox 360 game. Epic is releasing a free public Beta for Gears of War 3 multiplayer that will allow gamers to dive into some of the new maps and game modes, while giving Epic a chance to receive feedback that will actually be used to improve the game as they focus on polishing the final game in the trilogy with the extra development time. Activision is jumping into the 3D gaming space in a big way by offering one of the big games of 2010 in stereo 3D. In what could become the definitive 3D game experience, Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops will also be playable in stereoscopic 3D when the game launches at retail outlets worldwide on November 9. Activision Publishing revealed that the game will be compatible with 3D-ready HDTVs and 3D PCs utilizing state-of-the-art active shutter 3D glasses, delivering true depth of field and an unprecedented level of immersion that is perfectly suited for the Call of Duty action experience. Call of Duty: Black Ops will be playable in 3D on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

After negative publicity from the military and families of soldiers, Electronic Arts has pulled the Taliban from its multiplayer gameplay in Medal of Honor. The new shooter, which is the first Mature-rated game in the franchise, brings the action from WWII to modern day Afghanistan. In the multiplayer gameplay, gamers would choose between American soldiers and Taliban fighters to engage in multiplayer online arenas. Microsoft has pushed back the release of Epic Games' third installment of Gears of War until Fall 2011. The Xbpox 360 game was originally given an April 5 release date by Epic Games’ design director Cliff Bleszinski. This new launch date will give some breathing room between Epic’s other big shooter, Bulletstorm, which is currently still on track for a February 22, 2011 release from Electronic Arts for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. One of the big games of 2010 will celebrate Halloween long after October. Taking the wraps off one of the most anticipated features and worst kept secrets, game developer Treyarch revealed that the community-favorite “Zombies” is coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops which hits stores worldwide on November 9 from Activision. Zombies were originally introduced in Call of Duty: World at War and became an instant hit. Call of Duty: Black Ops fans can combat the zombie apocalypse in up to four-player co-op gameplay. Electronic Arts is giving players a chance to play one of the big games of 2010, Medal of Honor, on PC early with the Multiplayer Open Beta. Starting on October 4, the Open Beta will allow players an opportunity to sample Medal of Honor’s rich multiplayer mode before the full game launches on October 12. For a limited time, PC gamers worldwide are invited to sample two diverse maps and two action-packed multiplayer modes.
