The International 3D Society announced today that Panasonic Corporation will be the 2010 recipient of its prestigious Charles Wheatstone Award. The Wheatstone Award named for inventor Charles Wheatstone, who invented the Stereoscope in 1838 in England, was also a noted advocate and educator about stereoscopic vision and imaging. In recognition of their great contribution to increasing public knowledge about stereoscopy as a technical art and craft, the International 3D Society acknowledges Panasonic as an educational force for 3D in the 21st century. The Wheatstone Award will be formally presented to Panasonic at the 3D Technology Awards on October 19 at Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

LOS ANGELES – At the third annual 3D entertainment summit in Los Angeles, speakers like M. Night Shyamalan and Jefrey Katzenberg headlined the two-day event. The key takeaway from the sold out summit, which had over 800 attendees, was that 3D, though still an embryonic industry, is poised for explosive growth and will become the major force in entertainment moving forward. Sony Computer Entertainment America has launched PlayStation Move in North America, almost four years after Nintendo introduced the world to motion-controlled gaming and a few weeks before Microsoft jumps on the bandwagon with Kinect for Xbox 360. PlayStation Move fuses realistic, high-definition gaming with accurate and easy-to-use controls. The Move is also being blended with stereoscopic 3D on key games like Killzone 3 and The Fight: Lights Out.
