The International 3D Society announced today that Panasonic Corporation will be the 2010 recipient of its prestigious Charles Wheatstone Award. The Wheatstone Award named for inventor Charles Wheatstone, who invented the Stereoscope in 1838 in England, was also a noted advocate and educator about stereoscopic vision and imaging. In recognition of their great contribution to increasing public knowledge about stereoscopy as a technical art and craft, the International 3D Society acknowledges Panasonic as an educational force for 3D in the 21st century. The Wheatstone Award will be formally presented to Panasonic at the 3D Technology Awards on October 19 at Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Two of the big keynote speakers from the inaugural 3D Gaming Summit – Jon Landau – and the third annual 3D Entertainment Summit – Jeffrey Katzenberg – will join up for the 3D Media Markets summit on October 27 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. The conference is sponsored by Panasonic and its Ideas For Life. The program will feature leading executives from the fields of theatrical exhibition, TV distribution, videogaming, 3D technology, advertising/marketing and media finance. LOS ANGELES – During the third annual 3D Entertainment Summit, M. Night Shyamalan, the writer/producer of Universal Pictures Devil and a self-described non-techie, said he was wary that audiences' expectations of 3D films will force filmmakers to compromise "story-telling integrity" for eye-catching special effects.
