A Janeane Garofalo tribute act whose geek-girl-chic wore out long ago. Men in Klingon masks flanked by Carl Hiassen novels may still lust after her - but she is so clearly a careerist actress after an Ellen Degeneres-sized paypacket and "legacy". Mandy Allan, January 2010 |
A terrible comedian seth, October 2008 |
£40 - £50 is just too much for a comedy gig, end of story. Its one performer with a microphone, to charge over £25 is taking the piss. I like Sarah Silverman but wouldn't dream of paying £50 to see her in a barn like the Apollo. Comedy might well be the new rock and roll, but that doesn't mean you should put shows on at concert venues and overcharge your fans. In response to Lewis Scaffer's comment about ' Poor Sarah got caught in rising expectations' , with her split of the box office poor is the last thing she is. ian, October 2008 |
The quoted and cited jokes in reviews and comment columns are just a few of the politically incorrect Silverman standards which aren't particularly original or exciting. Silverman is not doing anything new per se, but she is a world-beater with her ludicrously over-the-top faux naive one-liners and taboo-stomping skits and songs. Gervais trotted out hugely hyped hugely expensive shows recently - and is nowhere near as accomplished a performer as Silverman, trotting out his bag of whiny politically incorrect jokes written by someone else getting more coverage because they're coming out of his punch-inviting famous face. Why were there fewer complaints then? because he managed a whopping 70 minutes? And Why on earth is everyone whining about the credit crunch? With a gig that's been organised for months - I'm not sure the recent stock market crash means that the crowd deserves more bang for their buck? Jeff Jefferson, October 2008 |
I had never heard of SS before seeing her on Jonathan Ross's show last week, I thought that was very poor and it goes to show how a PR machine can build someone up until they finally have to deliver something real and then they are shown for what they really are. Jon Harman, October 2008 |
I think anyone who went to this gig should be committed to an asylum, as Silverman is not a standup comic or decent actress. Anyone in their right mind would not pay £45 to £50 to see a clearly lowbrow self-proclaimed comic actress. Quit yer whining, as she has never cut the mustard with any decent TV or film appearance!rnrnDoes anyone think comedy is much less dead in the water in this side of the world?rnrnI think it died when that fat rotund man Gervais hit the scene.rnCrap = Little Britain, Mighty Bosh, the carrs.rnrnComedy sukz. rnrnDon't know why I bother, I used to love comedy (Hicks, Pryor, Deluise - only kidding) but now comedy shows are sh*t and now don't like pretty much the lot of standup apart from a few like Rich Hall, Sean Lock, Lee Mack or Jack Dee - forget the rest.rnrnEveryone tries to be too zany or just over the top - f this or f that. It just is crap.rnrnNot impressed by any, but please if you are into comedy at least have taste. Sarah Silverman, October 2008 |
I'm sorry, but even before the credit crunch, £50 for 50 minutes is absolutely absurd, no matter how good a comic you are. I was gutted that I couldn't make it to see this show, but now it seems I shouldn't have been. Neil, October 2008 |
I waited for 1.5 hours to get into the venue (so maybe I was a little keen). It started 30 mins late with no warm up act. she was on for 40 minutes, but on the poster downstairs it said she'd be on for 2 hours, from 8.30 to 10.30pm (after the 30 min warmup guy which never happened). Felt totally disappointed and can't believe it was £50 a ticket (after booking fee added on). What a total rip-off. Morris, October 2008 |
