Steve Williams: The Ultimate Worrier

Description

Following 2007 sell out success Steve Williams returns to Edinburgh with a show fraught with fantastical fables and free form folly forged from flourishing flights of fancy & fabulously funny fobservations. Its high calibre humour, smeared with fun and laughs. So why is he worrying?

Original Review:

Show Rating:Steve Williams: The Ultimate Worrier rated 2/5

When comedians open their preview shows to reviewers, there is always a danger of technical glitches or fluffed lines. But it is rare that a show opens at the Fringe that is quite as raw and unpolished as Steve Williams’s.

For a man who is a self-confessed worrier, always fearing the worst, you would think that Williams would have prepared better. He stumbles from one topic to another, frequently backtracking to insert lines he has apparently forgotten. He strays from his loose theme all too often and seems uncomfortable with his own material.

He admits to being an apologist and proves this a couple times during what feels like an extended club set when he can only say sorry in the silences where he is expecting laughs.

Williams is a personable performer and has some gems tucked away in the muddle, so the potential for a decent hour of comedy is apparent. But ultimately I worry that this potential will never be realized.
