Tsubasa v15
Reviewed by Dan Polley

Tokyo is in ruins in a post-apocalyptic desert land in the 15th volume of CLAMP’s Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle.

Having found one of the princess’ feathers in the last volume, Kurogane, Syaoran and the gang transported into a new world, this one straight from the future. It’s a hostile world — one in which all newcomers are treated with a downright non-welcoming party.

But Kurogane steps up for the group and goes into battle with one who has sworn to protect the society that Kurogane and the others have stepped into. But in the middle of the battle, others from a nearby society appear and test out the mettle of those Kurogane was fighting. In the end, no one wins, and Kurogane and company are accepted into the new society.

But that doesn’t do much for them, as their mission remains: To find the next one of Princess Sakura feathers and find the next world.

In the meantime, the group gets a visit from someone from the new world who proclaims to be a seer, one who has greater power. They ask him to help them with Princess Sakura, but instead he delivers them potentially worse news.

The artistic style gets a little bit darker in this volume as the characters in the new world are introduced and the back-stories of some in Kurogane’s group are fleshed out a little bit more. At the very least, it complements the plot very well, but it also feels very complete.

The characters emerge with a bit more fleshing out. That helps tremendously for the new characters, but it also helps in setting up the 16th volume of the series, which is sure to be full of some answers.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle climbs to a high level with this volume. With some answers right around the corner and the continuation of fleshing out some of the characters, hopefully this high level will not be a peak.
