The Baby Shower Story
Reviewed by Tom Rosin

Limited to five hundred copies, and printed on the sort of solid card that baby books utilise, this is an obsessively detailed, silent, twenty-page pageant of animals indulging in human pursuits - from courtship to boozing to studying to knitting - and not necessarily attractively, although it all looks fluffy on the surface. In fact, when I write "pageant", I mean "Bacchanal", for each double-page spread is stuffed with creatures to the point where it feels claustrophobic, and "excess" is definitely the key word. It makes you feel quite queasy, especially the page in which a lobster feasts on all the garnish that surrounds him whilst sitting on the platter he's potentially have served himself up on.

Is it a comment on human society? I don't know. I'd certainly question the term "story", although I suppose each print is one in itself, and you could linger on each page for hours, if you have the stomach. Titles include "Beer Party Interrupted By an Ice Cream Storm" and "The Afternoon Rehearsal of the Salamander Sisters". I'm put in my of neither Rudyard Kipling nor the Uncle Remus stories, except as envisaged by a deranged glutton
