Pichi Pich Pitch v7
Reviewed by Dan Polley

The last volume of Pichi Pichi Pitch is a disappointment. Sure, it contains the story of the first meeting between Lucia and Kaito, but other than that, it’s full of a few self-contained stories that don’t have anything to do with the princesses and their fabulous mermaid melodies.

There were also a couple of other self-contained stories about Pichi Pichi Pitch characters, namely Hippo. And while those two stories were interesting, they didn’t live up to the punch of the full Pichi storyline.

Creator Pink Hanamori also included a few other non-Pichi works in the volume. The best of those three was Get Nude, a story about love. It was a delightful little story that also spoke to the heart of what Pichi is about.

However, that and the other two stories just seemed out of place in this volume. While they were all good, especially Get Nude, it felt like they should have been published elsewhere.

The first meeting between Lucia and Kaito was a very good story, but it felt a bit lacking, too. Maybe it’s because the characters and their personalities involved in the story aren’t the same as those who ended in volume six.

Regardless, Pichi Pichi Pitch is over. The Pichi stories in this volume were all pretty good, but they fell just short of living up to the expectations of the main Pichi story. Likewise, the extra non-Pichi stories were good, but felt out of place in this volume. It’s a bit saddening that the Pichi story ends with this volume, instead of the sixth.
