Reviewed by Dan Polley The leader of the Shibuya Psychic Research, Kazuya Shibuya (aka Naru), has a dark spell cast on him in the ninth volume of Shiho Inada and Fuyumi Ono’s Ghost Hunt. And spirits keep haunting the cast and crew of the SPR as Naru continues to remain invalid. But the tides eventually turn for the SPR and part of that is Ayako Matsuzaki finally realizing how she can use herself to help out the team. And when she does, she allows the SPR to become more full again. The case that the team is on is interesting, but a bit difficult to follow at first. However, the pace picks up fast and leads to some fun and interesting discoveries later in the volume. Like many other manga, there is a full cast in Ghost Hunt that can be difficult to keep track of for first-time readers. Regular readers of the series The art can be varied, at least in this volume. There are portions that are deep and rich with detail and dovetail with the plot. There are also other portions that take on a minimalist tone, with headshots of characters imposed on monochrome backgrounds. Generally in this volume, the art is good and it’s at its best when there are spirit sequences that allow the art to fully breathe in conjunction with the plot. Ghost Hunt is a bit dark, but it doesn’t get too serious either. Comment on this review of Ghost Hunt v9 on the Manga Life Forums. |
