BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo v1 (ongoing)
Reviewed by David Rasmussen

First off, just so we clear the air on all this… no, VIZ isn't trying to trick you into thinking there's an Ongoing Series and then just turn about and rehash the One Shot… this is an Ongoing Series, and dear god who would have thought there would be enough interest (let alone story) for an Ongoing after the One Shot.

Yes, it's back once again to the world of BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo… the guy who looks like a male character from DragonBall Z had a love child with... the '70s. That guy.

Because nobody demanded it, he's back… and he's got some sort of storyline going as he starts the volume stuck in a battle against one of the 6 Cyber Knights of the hair-hunting armies of one Smoothie the 4th (who apparently got a great discount on evil uniforms from the planet Saiyan -- or just from a production company that did the Dragonball Z Anime Series -- prior to its destruction). The battle is long, very long, too long and filled with enough puns to choke every intellegence agent in the world… but wait! It doesn't end there! No, apparently because the fight was broadcast live it was watched by the other 5 members of the Cyber Knights and now they're also out for Bo, Beauty (she of the eternal complaints) and the rest of the gang. Oh, didn't see that one coming, oh no.

But wait a minute… you're not here for the pretense of a story, are you? No, you weren't here for a pretense of a story back when we were talking about the One Shot, so I doubt you're here for one now with the first volume of an ongoing series. No, you're not here for that… which is good because there's not much of that to go around for everyone. No, you're here for the humor that never ends.

Mind you I hope you like it when a series runs the same chains of humor (in different variants but still the same when you stack them up and compare) over and over again, because after all if it worked once it'll work 1001 times… right? Anyway as long as you don't mind this title's particular "brand" of humor (which somehow rates a T for Teen considering how weird and bizarre it can get a times) then this is going to be a read for you.

Mind you, however, if you are already an anti-BoBoBo from both the Anime and the One Shot manga then this title is not going to be making you a convert anytime soon… but still, if you need a good laugh and like to find something that is a bit out there and sometimes innovative (even if it's a somewhat variant at times of the same humor from time to time it does bring a fresh original laugh here and there which is all we can ask for, isn't it, a fresh chuckle now and then).

B is for being a good laugh title, and really in this present state of the world right now we could use more good solid laughs now and then to lighten the mood... of course I also think we could use other things as well but let's not go there (lord knows VIZ will misinterpret my intentions and go the Broccoli Books way, and right now we really don't need any more of THAT floating about... thanks).

OK. Maybe I am giving BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo a bit of a slightly lower score but B is still good and appropriate since the title is for a good laugh, but could use a little more freshness in the humor all the same. To that end BoBoBo-Bo Bo-BoBo gets a B, a solid, fresh, yet totally appropriate B. Enjoy (it's a recommended read)!
