Not every lost soul is a lost cause....
"When a young girl moves to the forgotten town of Bizenghast, she uncovers a terrifying collection of lost souls that lead her to the brink of insanity. One thing becomes painfully clear: the residents of Bizenghast are just dying to come home."

The Story:
When Dinah becomes orphaned, she is sent to live in the forgotten town of Bizenghast where all is not what it seems. Troubled by ghosts to the brink of insanity, Dinah is a troubled young girl with only her friend Vincent to console her. When in the woods one day, they stumble apon a magnificent structure, home to lost souls in need of saving.

The main story is a little slow moving and simplistic however it is divided into neat little chapters. At the beginning of each chapter there is an insight into the underlying story involving Vincent through things like newspaper articles and telegrams and this is more intriguing than the main story.

The Characters:
Dinah is a commonplace character, you have seen her before in books and movies, the teenage troubled soul. Her twist - she can see ghosts. So far, a very simply developed character, she serves her purpose as a medium for the story.

Vincent, her best friend, is definately the more interesting of the two and his story is slowly being revealed and is clearly a much more complex character than he seems.

Once the story gets started there are a few quirky characters along the way - some are freaky, some are highly amusing and definately add depth to the story.

The Art:
I absolutely love the artwork and it was the artwork on the cover that made me decide to buy it! For those of you who like quirky, gothic artwork with a Tim Burton-esque feel - this is perfect! It is a little sketchy in places but overall I love it!

The Verdict:
Written by one of Tokyopop's rising star contest finalists, M. Alice LeGrow, this is a fantastic debut. I really enjoyed the artwork, it was a joy to look at, very easy on the eye. The story may be a bit slow moving but it does keep you intrigued enough to want to buy the second volume! Overall a thumbs up from me!
