First Year Struggles
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Marriage on Tuesday, September 28, 2010
A while ago I got an email from a reader asking for advice on thriving through the first year of marriage.
My first thought: Whoa. I am not the right person to be asking!
My husband and I have a wonderful marriage now. He is my partner in the best sense of the word. I love him and wouldn’t want to live without him. But our first year… well, it was a little rocky.
I think I honestly expected our marriage,... READ MORE

People are preposterous. And wonderful!
With a polite nod to the Ironic Catholic.
Silence In Hyde Park

Not to belabor the point, but Pope Benedict XVI really won the people of the United Kingdom over.
Here’s an incredible story about that.
Read it if you need some cheering up.
I bring this up again, though, because it highlights one of the most astonishing moments of the trip, more powerful, perhaps, than his many beautiful and pitch-perfect addresses.
That was the moment of exposition of the Blessed... READ MORE

I’ve so come to look forward to The Anchoress’ periodic vocation round-ups.
There’s no better evidence that the Church is young and alive as the pope once exclaimed.
Here, have a look.
More Laughs With Brian Regan
Posted by Danielle Bean in Just me on Monday, August 09, 2010
I got a hugely positive reaction when I posted a video featuring a comedy act from Brian Regan on my own blog (especially from my kids, most of whom now have the video memorized). So I decided to look for some other clips of his stuff to share here.
Brian grew up in a large family—one of eight children. There’s a lot of his stuff on YouTube, but this hilariously accurate bit about kids’ party games... READ MORE
Wild Innocent Joy

Here’s a sweet gift of joy a reader emailed me this week.
Six-year-old Felicita wrote and performed this catchy song all by herself. Her four siblings sing and dance along with her, her uncle shot the video on his iPhone, and her dad produced the recording.
The reader who emailed wrote, ” It showcases, I think, the richness and lightness and purity of Joy - singing a little melody and dancing with her sisters, I feel like little Felicity is letting us witness what Chesterton calls ‘the gigantic secret of the Christian.’”
I have to agree. Watch for yourself and see how infectious and attractive genuine joy can be.
The Laughing Saint

Today’s the feast of a favorite saint, Philip Neri.
I figured one of my favorite bloggers, Fr. Philip Neri Powell, OP would have something to say, and he didn’t disappoint.
Go here for a round-up of all things Neri.
We'll Miss These Days

My youngest sibling is about to graduate from high school, and he’ll be going away to college this fall. My parents are about to be empty-nesters. Compared to a decade ago, their house seems quiet these days.
I, on the other hand, cannot go to the bathroom without a child pounding on the door.
Parenting young children is physically demanding, and life is busy for us. I always say that I bend over... READ MORE

Dear Readers, meet my daughter!
Thank you so much for sharing our joy with us. Isabel is wonderful, an incredible gift and we are all delighted and amazed and just plain in love.
Also, did you know you made a poster for me? Reader KathyV (who happens to be my friend and across-the-street-neighbor) put a poster on my backdoor to me and Isabel from all of you. Thank you!
