Lai Youttitham is an amazing guitarist. I hope he becomes more well known because I think he could go one on one with Joe Satriani or Steve Vai and not break a sweat. (Crossroads anyone?) Really, you have got to check this video out.
What is even cooler about this guy is that he composes his own music, records it, and also has the backing tracks and his songs available to download at his site. http://www.laizmusic.com/ so if you want some good guitar backing tracks to jam with… (I would actually try to learn all of the songs note by note so that you can impress people by knowing them when he becomes famous … )
What is truly amazing about this young guitar virtuoso is his story. He was born in Laos, a country that is controlled by a totalitarian (did I spell that right?) regime that tries to keep its people from leaving at gunpoint. Lai left his country taking the risk of getting killed in order to gain his freedom. Here is where the story gets really interesting…
He stayed in a refugee camp for 4 years in Thailand where he did volunteer work. Apparently, one of the officials that he worked with had an electric guitar on which he became a serious student. After 4 years, he was able to immigrate to Canada where he now lives.
Anyways, just check out this awesomeness…
