Miracles in the Moment

When was the last time God took your breath away?

It happens to me about once per month - and it happened again Monday night.  God took my breath away!

It was a busy day—as they all are.  I had picked Adam up at school, run three errands with him, and was racing to get him home in time to eat and go to fencing practice.  I was in a hurry, so much so that my head literally hurt.

And then I looked up at the sky and saw it - the most perfect sunset I’d seen in months.  It was so gorgeous that Adam and I agreed to stop the car immediately, pause, and savor the moment in quiet.  The closest parking lot held these palm trees—Greg’s favorite plant in the world.  With my husband in San Francisco at a meeting, Adam said, “You have to take a photo and send it to Dad!”  We sat for a few moments, taking in the beauty of the vision laid out in front of us, and then went on with our busy-ness.  But we were calmer, more serene - and my headache was gone immediately.

God never ceases to astound me, not only with the way He literally and tangibly blesses my life, but also with his mastery in nature.  A sunset, the roar of the ocean, a single wildflower, the sound of rain - His bounty is so plentiful around us!

When was the last time you saw a vision like this in your day to day life?  Share with us a recent “God sighting” so we can all enjoy His handiwork in action!

My moment was this week when 2 people;one a 9 month old that had a serious surgery to remove a piece of skull since his prematurly fused together and the other a young lady who was in a car accident and had horrible injuries both came home doing excellent (still a long recovery ahead) but home earlier then expected and both on the same day!

A few months ago I wrote about a similar experience that I had with a sunset. It stunned me to the point that it actually changed the way I behave: I still look at the sky more and I’ve realized that the sky is routinely gorgeous - I just hadn’t generally noticed, because it took a particularly stunning sunset to get me in the habit of looking up!

Viewing the perfect, intricate, geometrical, crystalline formation of snowflakes as they lay in layers on the leaves.
Looking upon our sleeping baby as he lay peacefully in slumber between us in bed.

New Years Day on the way to mass, I saw the most beautiful full rainbow.

Yesterday as I was driving to be with my dad during his surgery there were hundreds of frost covered trees. When the sun hit them just right they sparkled! We have about 4 feet of snow on the ground and that was sparkling too! I’ve been complaining a lot about the amount of snow we’ve gotten but yesterday reminded me to be grateful for the beauty God has given us!

Yesterday walking through the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History with my 2-year-old and 4-year-old daughters.  We went specifically to see the “jewels” (the gem exhibit) after a morning appointment at Children’s Hospital.  God really created some beautiful rocks smile  The joy on the girls faces and the shrieks of “look at that beautiful one” were infectious!

I got a call Sunday afternoon that my 93 year old Grandmother had passed away.  Hospice has been helping the family for about 3 weeks now so it was expected.  But I had to take my 14 year old daughter to her basketball game at 5:15 and saw the most beautiful sunset.  I watched it in my rearview mirror as long as I could.  I felt this sense of peace.  Somehow I knew Grandma was happy and finally had the peace she longed for.  We had her funeral today.  Thanks for reminding me about the sunset!

I saw a rainbow about a 2 weeks ago as I was driving home from the mall. I was all by myself and the parkway I was driving on was desolate.  I followed it all the way home. It disappeared out of sight a few blocks before I got to my house.  It gave me that little boost I needed. When I got in the house I said to my husband, “I just followed a rainbow home, can you believe it?”  I don’t ever recall seeing a rainbow at this time of year before this experience.

I don’t mean to detract from this beautiful topic, but I have a question about CRS.
I donated through their web site but didn’t receive a confirmation. Does anyone know if that’s just how they do things or do I need to rerun it?
THANKS!!

Dianna, we had word this morning that due to extremely heavy traffic (thanks be to God!) the CRS website is experiencing outages.  I’m confident that they will have this resolved soon - I would assume that your donation went through, but you might also contact your credit card company to check for sure.  Thanks for your generous support of those who so greatly need our help during this time!

Was up early one morning to spend some time with my Lord. As I went to the sink to prepare some coffee, I looked up thru the window and there in the inky black sky was a big bright full moon. I just stood there; it was beautiful. That was a great “Good morning” Lord. Thanks!
