At Colorados innovative Youthful Offender System, or YOS, violent juvenile felons are given one last chance at rehabilitation before being sent to adult prisons but its not easy. Most are gang members and many have serious authority and anger problems. When inmates first arrive at YOS, they undergo a rigorous four-week boot camp where drill instructors try to break down their criminal thinking through strenuous physical and mental exercises. If they survive that, they must complete a two-to-six year sentence at main campus, where they will have to learn how to take responsibility for themselves and their actions. But gangs are rampant at YOS and a constant lure. If these violent teens succeed, they can return home with a good shot at a crime-free life. But fail and its off to the big house where they will be targets for sexual abuse and at great risk of suicide.
