Part of good financial planning and easy, everyday savings involves getting a good buy on products that you will use, and on products that are of good quality. After all, a poor quality product that breaks or becomes useless after a few months is a waste of money and does nothing to help you reach your financial goals. My husband gets Consumer Reports, and many of our purchases are made using information from this magazine. But I recently discovered another helpful magazine from Consumers Union, the same company that does Consumer Reports: ShopSmart.
ShopSmart is put together in a clean, easy-to-read format and aimed at women. And, since women make 85% of the purchases for home, it is important that women be informed about the best products and the best values. One of the things I like about my husband's Consumer Reports is that it features a "best buy" tag that lets you know what is the best value for the money, not necessarily the most expensive item. I also like that there are no ads for products, and that all tested products are bought and paid for by the company. This leaves no doubt as to the integrity of the magazine. The new magazine launched in August, and is a quarterly publication. The next issue set to hit newsstands this month (look for it in grocery, retail and bookstores).
