Discipline, Values and Standards

A soldier on operations giving orders

The British Army is a professional and disciplined team and it has strong public support. Its job is often difficult and demanding, requiring its soldiers to have high standards of behaviour at all times.

The Values below guide and develop us into the sort of people we should be; the Standards explain how we are expected to behave.

The type of people we are

Being a soldier is not easy. We are asked to do things not asked of other people. We have to be aggresive and strong in battle, yet behave properly and show self-control all the time. To enable us to do this the Army has 6 Values it requires us to live by

The way we behave

Low standards, both professional and personal, damage the team and could cause injury or death on operations. this is why the Army has a more demanding approach towards certain type of behaviour and relationships than the rest of society.
