Sweet Mercy

We’re planning a sweet celebration to remind us of the sweetness of Christ’s Divine Mercy later today.
How about you? Do you have special plans for marking today’s feast of Divine Mercy?
For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world!

I third the Thank you ! I always forget Novenas at least one of the days. I believe that this is the first time that I have totally participated and succeeded. Thank you Thank you Thank you !!!!
Gosh! What foods describe the mercy of the Lord???!!! Cream puffs? Lemon meringue pie? Chocolate icecream, homemade with nuts and marshamallows in it..? Bakalava!?
Taste and see that the Lord is good, Amen? What a fun thing to contemplate-thanks for the post!
These evening for desert we are having Strawberry Shortcake, with the strawberries and whipped cream placed in rows to imitate the rays coming from Jesus’s heart in the Divine Mecy Pictures. I think I say the idea in the Faith and Family Magazine!
We didn’t make it specifically Divine-Mercy-themed, but we’ve got great food planned for today in celebration of the end of the Easter octave and this special Sunday.
King Ranch Casserole (recipe here: http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/No-Soup-King-Ranch-Casserole-280472)
and homemade Samoa Bars (recipe here: http://bakingbites.com/2009/02/homemade-girl-scout-cookies-samoas-bars/)
Deliciousness!
We attended wonderful Divine Mercy Sunday celebrations with special Mass, confessions, Cahplet, Litnay of Mercy, Adoration and Benediction, veneration of the Divine Mercy picture, and relics of St. Faustina. After this wonderful celebration of God’s Divine Mercy they held a reception with many sweet treats and fruits—-but no sweet foods could ever top the sweetness of God’s Infinate and Divine Mercy for me a sinner!
I have volunteered at Divine Mercy Sunday since I was a tike - - at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, MA. So there I was, once again, sleeves rolled up, ringing the shrine bells and assisting the Liturgy crew. What a blessing!
Praise God for the gorgeous weather!
I will have to try those recipes y’all posted tomorrow; you made me hungry!
So I didn’t do the baking, but McDonald’s did with their insanely delicious Mocha McFrappe. It might be illegal in some states for the caffeine high it has put me on.
I actually had a coupon for another free one with purchase of a $1 menu sandwich, but since I don’t eat meat, I asked the order-taker guy if I paid for the meal, could he possible deliver it anonymously to this man in the corner? He said sure. While I ate my meal, I noticed the man observe me bless my food before I ate it. He seemed like a nice man, was showered, smiled at people, just a little down on his luck (which isn’t a far stretch in this economic crisis). He had a large backpack and his bedroll with him at his table, and only one of those free cups that they offer for water. I kept thinking to myself “This is Jesus’ face” - even though we are in the Montrose district of Houston, Texas in the year 2010. And so, Jesus *by proxy* enjoyed a caramel McFrappe and a juicy McDouble today as well.
Every Divine Mercy Sunday, the students at Benedictine come to mass to watch/celebrate/encourage those other students who are joining/coming into full communion with the Church. This year there were quite a few…20-ish? Archbishop Naumann was there…and I so love him!...but Sam is not a fan. He thinks his sermons are too long and that it wouldn’t hurt a bit if he lost a page or two. I spent most of mass walking him back and forth…which is why I brought this up. While walking him I could not help but thank God repeatedly for His mercy…both for giving us each of our children, and for helping me to better understand His love through them. Children love so like God does…unmerited and without reserve. No matter how difficult and how tiring it is to help our children behave well and grow in virtue, I will do my best to help…and they truly do make that easy. I realize the parallels break down pretty quickly here except for this: God not only always does His utmost to help, His utmost is truly amazing, so merciful…so deep? so unfathomable, undeserved… but soooo very appreciated. In the presence of Love…and love… we really do want to love back, as best we can. I don’t always do my best, but I am so very grateful to those who inspire me to aim higher! This night, at around 3 am., after changing his diaper, little Sam patted my head and assured me that I was a “good dog.” I hope he’s right.
