MADRID -- Spain's broadcaster Telecinco signed a broad strategic alliance with The Walt Disney Company Thursday that sees the Spanish network offer series, feature films and other original programming from Disney, ABC Studios and ABC Family.

The accord also sees Disney in a non-exclusive capacity handle theatrical distribution on Spanish films co-produced by Telecinco's film arm, Telecinco Cinema--Spain's most powerful production house.

"This strategic agreement means a lot for us, given that it represents a very important qualitative step in our relations with Telecinco," The Walt Disney Company's CEO for Spain and Portugal Simon Amselem said.

Starting in November 2011, Telecinco will be able to air ABC Studios and ABC Family new series--to be presented at the Los Angeles Screenings in May. Additionally, catalog titles like "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "The Rock," "Finding Nemo" or "The Incredibles" will also air on Telecinco. New titles from the Original Disney Channel Original Movies label are included too.

The multi-year agreement goes beyond an ouput deal, offering Telecinco the possibility of producing Spanish versions of ABC Studios productions, as well as offering additional Disney content for Telecinco's other channels, available on terrestrial digital television platforms.

For the past decade, Telecinco has championed its strategy of not acquiring U.S. product. The Disney deal comes after recent deals with NBC-Universal and CBS-Paramount.

Spain's leading private channel, Telecinco's main channel features general programming. But Spain's burgeoning TDT market has given Telecinco specialty channels La Siete and Boing.

Plus Telecinco merged with free-to-air channel Cuatro earlier this year, giving it an additional outlet--if competition regulators approve the merger later this year.

"The alliance with The Walt Disney Company ensures a slot of top quality content directed at a wide target audience, something essential for airing first rate products on the different channels that comprise the Telecinco family," Telecinco Group CEO Paolo Vasile said.
