Employer Programs

Bike Pittsburgh Partnerships

In 2008 we launched the Partnership Program to reach out to the city’s employers to help make Pittsburgh one of the bicycle meccas of the world. Employers that promote and support bicycling to work help:

  • Increase the amount of riders in the city
  • directly influence improved conditions for cyclists
Join other Bike Pittsburgh partners in turning things around one employer at a time.

Become Bike Pittsburgh Certified!

What does it mean to be Bike Pittsburgh Certified?

It means you have established a partnership with Bike Pittsburgh at the advocate level by encouraging and supporting bicycling to your workplace. You are walking the walk.

Bike Pittsburgh partners enter into the partnership for many different reasons.

Some want to demonstrate their progressive values to prospective employees and to the community. Others focus on retaining current staff by improving employees’ health or boosting morale. Still others want to encourage alternative transportation as a way to protect the environment and to promote Pittsburgh as a healthy, forward-thinking city. Whatever your goal, Bike Pittsburgh will work with you and your employees to encourage safe, fun cycling.

Each partnership is tailored to the prospective partner.

All employers are welcome to join Bike Pittsburgh at the basic membership level, but if your organization wants to be a bike-friendly workplace, or you could benefit from marketing opportunities and/or you see Bike Pittsburgh’s work as an extension of your own mission then a custom made advocate or sponsor partnership would be a better fit.

Why would you want to encourage cycling?

A bike-friendly culture can help you attract and retain quality employees. Educated, active people want jobs in progressive cities—and cycling is key benchmark of a city’s livability.

Cycling is fun

Most bike commuters rank their rides to and from work among the best parts of their days.

Cycling is healthy

Cyclists burn fat, not oil. It’s an easy way to incorporate exercise into a daily routine. Not to mention, employees who are healthy get sick less often so promoting cycling can increase productivity.

Cycling saves money

Gasoline is expensive, and so is parking. Bikes use neither. The average new automobile costs over $8000.00/year to own and operate according to AAA.

Cycling does not pollute

Cycling is a great way to reduce carbon emissions, a crucial step in combating climate change.
