Our Mission

Bike Pittsburgh is a member-based organization that works to protect cyclist’s rights and promote the vision of making Pittsburgh a safer and more enjoyable place to live and to ride.

Our mission is to establish Pittsburgh as a city that is increasingly safe, accessible, and friendly to bicycle transportation.

Strategic Plan

Please download our one-page strategic plan summary. We wrote our strategic plan in 2008.

Our Vision

Bike Pittsburgh envisions our city as a thriving metropolis built on a dynamic multimodal transportation network that facilitates biking throughout the city. Residents and visitors can navigate the city safely and conveniently by bike; our unique topography and street layout are viewed as beautiful and interesting assets rather than challenges. It is possible to live in Pittsburgh without a car; biking is seen not just as a recreational activity but as a viable mode of transportation, and residents participate in cycling as part of a healthy and active lifestyle. People are not afraid to ride bicycles anywhere in the city. In fact, it is seen as a preferred mode of travel. Pittsburgh will become an international model of a former rust-belt industrial center transformed into a green, sustainable, bike-friendly city.

Our Goals

  • Pursue the timely implementation of the City Bike Plan
  • Promote Pittsburgh as a bicycling community
  • Represent the interests of bicyclists
  • Endorse the bicycle as a viable, economical, and desirable mode of transportation
  • Educate bicyclists and motorists on road safety
  • Assist local agencies in establishing bike-friendly policies for Pittsburgh
  • Strengthen ties amongst community Development Corporations, businesses, and the bicycling community
  • Contribute to Pittsburghers’ health and environment
