Today is the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. but Nintendo is waiting until next month to mark the occasion with a special box set. Super Mario Collection Special Pack will be released in Japan on October 21 and you can see the first images below.
The red collector's box contains Super Mario Collection for the Wii, a 25 years of Mario history booklet containing as-yet-unseen artwork and development materials, and a soundtrack CD featuring classic Mario themes from the past quarter of a century.
As for the game, it is a reproduction of Super Mario Collection which was released in Japan in 1993. It was also released in the US as Super Mario All-Stars, a SNES compilation of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3), It also included the Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
The Super Mario Collection Special Pack will cost 2,500 Yen and there will be a limited number available. Check out the images of the pack below. How much do you want it?
personally the fan made mods of new super mario bros wii and DS are a lot better than these. sure they may not have the right powerups but at kleast they spent more time and effort than nintendo on the idea. they should have just released super mario all star version of the games on VC and have done with it instead of flogging a £20-£30 disk which is about 200mb in size on a 4gb dvd and 3x the cost of buying them on VC
Meh. I love the old-school Mario games, don't get me wrong, but flogging Super Mario All*Stars again? Come on, Nintendo - surely you could have done better than that? :/
i own all the original cartridges so this isn't exactly high on my list. these days i play these games through snes9x gx on the wii homebrew channel with all kinds of filters running. it smokes nintendo's own emulation on the wii and i get 60hz,480p versions that look incredible on my hdtv.
i doubt this re release will have the same level of polish.
no point releasing them on the vc either: the wii vc has been dead since day one with the 50hz conversions of f-zero x,etc...
for £20 I don't think this is too bad, especially for those who were too young to play it at the time (or some other ridiculous reason). Plus the bonus content might add a little value, even if the soundtrack collection CD will probably end up being crap (not due to the music itself mind you).
Feck it, just let me buy the artbook seperataly and I'll be happy.
yeah only reason i'd even consider this is for the artbook/cd and other guffins u get with it. the game itself is just a p**s poor lazy snes game port which should in no way ever have been put onto a dvd disk and sold again. it should be a package with the artbook/cd ect in it with a special code to download a special VC version of mario all stars OR they should have taken a leaf out of teh modders books and remade teh levels using teh nsmbw engine because i been playing the demo of new retro mario bros on my ds flash cart and that is a lot better effort than i've seen nintendo do with this
Yes please, Nintendo! I don't care if it's a glorified VC game on a disc; it's a fantastic package and the bonus content is more than worth it alone for me. I guess it would have been nice to have a few more of the VC games on the disc, such as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, but you can't have it all I guess.
