Microsoft's Xbox 360 outsold every other console on the market in the US last month.
According to NPD data, the console shifted 356,700 units - easily outdoing Sony's PS3, which sold 226,000. However, PS3 recorded its thirteenth consecutive month of sales growth.
Nintendo's Wii managed 244,300 sales - its worst performance since launch.
Elsewhere, the DS racked up 342,700 sales, and the PSP limped home with 79,400.
Xbox product director Aaron Greenberg has already celebrated the results. He wrote on Twitter last night:
"The tortoise keeps going."
In software terms, EA's Massen NFL 11 trumped every other release, taking the No.1 spot on the sales chart on Xbox 360 (920,800 units) and No.2 on PS3 (893,600 units).
Super Mario Galaxy took third position (124,600), whilst the 360 version of Take Two's Mafia II had a strong debut at No.4 (121,600).
NPD's Anita Frazier predicted that September could be "a huge sales month" for Microsoft with Halo: Reach.
Apparently your new profanity filter doesn't pick up motherf**ker, constantly rated one of the most offensive words of all time. Shame on you, somebody please think of the children.
Did you just nick this from EG's article of yesterday???
Same typo in regards to Wii numbers sold (244,3000??) and same error in saying the PS3 outsold the wii (244,300>226,000).
I bet Nintendo are still making more money from those figures than MS or Sony. I wonder what it costs them to make a wii now, considering they made a profit four years ago?
Mmmm I just bust out my trousers at the sales figures.... phwoooarr
Seriously... the only people that care about sales figures are those that GET the sales and little prepubescent children who think that the 360/PS3 "war" is one that they are fighting in and that if "their side" wins, they get an achievement or trophy.
I don't think people of a certain age..i.e. have hair down there, are losing hair up there and what they have left is going more silverish as the days go by, give a stuff about latest figures.
Let's put this into perspective. Competition is good for the consumer. It keeps innovation on the agenda, it (should) keep prices down. It should make sure that the paying public have got a decent mix of gaming options open to them over a 12 month period.
Competition is the reason why we are playing on vastly powerful machines rather than the 128k machines of the 80's.
If there was no competition, and Commodore still ruled the earth... what's to say we'd all still be playing a beefed up version of Hungry Horace or Jet Set Willy!!
Kids... let the console makers fight it out... you carry on playing games.
Every single time one of these articles gets posted you get a stream of people saying 'who cares about sales figures', and you know they've really just s**t themselves that 'their' console is 'winning' or are typing through teary eyes cos their console is 'losing'.
These threads always have about a million comments! If people didn't actually care then they a). Wouldn't read them. b). Wouldn't post.
As you have all three Reeg, you must go a bit mental when you get all three emotions in one hit:
f**k yeah!! My console's coming 1st in the sales list! Oh, it's in the middle - that's OK I suppose. s**t, it's come last. Did I make the right choice?!?!?
So right now, you're sitting at your PC, pants full and tears streaming down your face. What is the second place emotion?
The sales figures are kinda interesting, but I don't take anything from them. Most popular has never and probably never will, mean the best.
I must admit to enjoying seeing Nintendo massively outsell MS and Sony over the past few years though, as it winds the 'core' gamers up into a right tizz. And they're the 'purest' gaming company in my opinion. They haven't lost touch with the idea that it's supposed to be fun - I think the other two have lost sight of this abit in their search for a misguided sense of realism.
People love sales figures (hence the reaction), period.
Nintendo, from a sales perspective, struck gold by releasing a Gamecub in a new case with motion controls that weren't even as sensitive as they made out initially, and because of it, the market has been flooded with pure kak (I was one of Nintendos biggest fanboys).
Microsoft have done exceeding well in the US, what about Japan though? Where is the commitment to great games? Had it not been the cross platform excellence of MW, and Bungie's focus on MP Halo, Valve's early love affair, Epics stab at 3rd person shooting, Xbox would struggle to survive. Now they've lost Valve's interest with a closed system which is getting price hikes. They've developed a slighty better EyeToy device (which was scaled down) to rival a 1:1 tracker motion controller. The less said about Rare, the better. They've lost Bungie to Activision. Sure Halo Reach is gearing up but so is GT5.
Sony are really getting into gear worldwide, with ongoing commitment to 1st party devs, (I don't think Insomniac will be missed given much Xbots declare their hate fo their games), commitment to PSN (free Vidzone, online play, browser, openess to expand etc) and a machine that rivals top end PCs with BD outa the box (Home, 3D, motion controls not a necessity???? it's there if you want it anyway). The only thing keeping MS afloat is the developed Live community, thanks to Bungie who is no longer committed to the platform, and the users who want the most outa their cold hard subscriptions to MS. It's asad story for Sony who are fighting to win hearts by doing everything for the gaming public.

you need to get laid, i have a ps3 and 360 and i dont give a flying f**k about who is winning aslong as they keep churning out great games like halo and uncharted
Another slow news day on planet fanboy, do these idiots stand outside Game on a Saturday asking customers what platform they bought for before retiring to their cribs to analyse and pull their puds over the results.
Sony selling well= game industry win MS selling well- game industry win Ninty selling well= game industry win

Nintendo's Wii managed 244,300 sales - its worst performance since launch.
its worst since launch was this last month. freaking hell only 4 years now reached its lowest numbers. in old console wars 4 years was the actually life span of a console
Nice going nintendo guess the wii isn't a fail as fps gamer thinks.
nice to see the box back on top for once. see what happens when kinect launches aswell
The only thing that really matters is when a consoles sales figures start to seriously decline, so, other than the PSP no-one has anything to worry about. As for 360 vs PS3 fanboy wars, perhaps they should look at the bigger and far rosier picture that both machines sit at about 40 million sales so there should be plenty of support whatever you own for a good few years to come.
I'm constantly surprised about how the dead rising demo can sell so well, but a quality game like blur is played by hardly anyone.
I think I need to get out more.
Dead Rising: Case Zero wasn’t a demo, its a little game in its own right, and for 400 points it has already given me about 8 hours of game play and I’m still playing it was bloody worth it as far as I’m concerned.
And yes you do need to get out more, I am counting down the minutes until I can go out again, which at current count is 207 minutes.

So, apart from the aquaducts, sanitation, the roads, irrigation, medicine, education, wine, public baths and public health, what did the Romans ever do for us?

'' Nobody cares about sales, the only people that care are microsoft employees, i doubt they are here. ''
Reading some of the comments on these threads I'd swear there are employees from M$ and Sony on this site.
Who cares for sales ? We should be glad we have competition...could you imagine a world were M$ were the only console makers ? They charge sky high as it is just imagine without Sony breathing down their necks how it would be like.
"Yeah for pathetic Xbox 360 fanboys. They think America is the only county in the world. "
Yes well with a population in excess of 300 million and the worlds largest economy, I guess most people with half a brain would be interested in US sales figures, you retarded tit.

Sorry if that sounded fanboyish, I'm totally impartial.
It mattered more to Sony fanboys when Sony was selling more... now it's in third place sales don't matter that much apparently.
The PS3 hasnt been a Jaguar, 3DO, Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox 1, Gamecube here, the PS3 has beena worldwide success. I dont see the Wii as a contender (I know a 45 year old who bought 1 for Wii Fit, hell my own parent bought 1 for Golf and Bowling now she is selling it to a nephew after 2 months because "it just sits there" lol), I had one and sold it, worse Nindedo yet and immensley underpower, but the gimmick of motion control was there, without it the machine would have failed, its still kak and I refuse to buy 1 unless the tech can compete with next gen games (I want a true next gen Mario and Zelda).
The Xbox has performed terrically, kudos to there sailes but Ive been let down by their lack of commitment to delivering true next gen titles, a lot of devs have been very kind to MS (Epic, Valve etc) but they MS havent been able to deliver like Sony - GOW3, Uncharted 2, GT5, LBP, Heavy Rain, Mod Nation etc etc and they've lost their power house Bungie.
Sony might be 3rd but the machine in pol position has garnered a completely different audience (excluding me in the process), the other has proven worthy but Sony are gathering momemtum each month in the US and excelling everywhere else
sorry for the spellin issues if any about, go a bit fast and dont have time to check it
It does make me laugh that people don't consider the Wii a competition. I think it's hit the PS brand by far the hardest (Sony came into this gen with a 70% market share of something like that!). You used to get old folks saying 'Playstation' when they meant console, and now they'll say 'Wii'! Kids on TV shows now play Wii instead of a PS2 etc. So the wii games aren't next gen because of the graphics? I don't see anything in PS3 games you listed that makes them 'next gen' compared to equivalent games on 360 (or PC - which are basically the same as 360/PS3 with better graphics). I'd agree the user content of LBP and Modnation is brilliant though.
And of course it would have failed without motion control; it would have been a slightly higher powered GC - instead of changing the graphics (which is all the 360 and PS3 are compared to the xbox and PS2), they changed the control scheme - is that so hard to grasp? I'd much rather have companys just trying to add more to the gaming experience than just improving graphics. In that case we might as well just have PCs and update the graphics card every three years or so.
I'd rather have a more even market share as it leads to more benefits for the consumers, although the downside is mental fanboys splitting hairs and trying to play consoles off against each other. And for the record, if I was buying a console now, I'd get a PS3 and MS seem to have hit a bit of a wall - I just wouldn't be quite so blatantly blinkered with my opinions!
