Abdurrahman Shalgham

Abdurrahman Shalgham was born in 1949 and earned a BA in media from Cairo University in 1972. He served as editor-in-chief of El-fajir El-jadid newspaper from 1975–1977 and Cultural Weekly and Political Weekly <I> from 1977-1979. He directed Jamahiriya News Agency from 1979 to 1981. Shalgham's first government post was secretary of information from 1981-1983. From 1984 to 1995, he was Libyan ambassador to Italy and secretary of foreign affairs to the Libyan General People's Congress from 1998-2000. In 2000, he assumed his current post. He was recently involved in the United States removing Libya from its list of state sponsors of terrorism and restoring diplomatic relations.
