Martha Stewart wants to be star interviewerCites Barbara Walters, Larry King as role models
Sept 2, 2010, 10:08 AM ET "My favorite interviewers are Larry King [and] Barbara Walters, both of whom are kind of retiring," Stewart said, the New York Post reported on Thursday. "Who's going to take their place as the serious, great interviewer? I'm throwing my name in there, because I love to talk to people." Stewart made the comments ahead of her first hour-long primetime interview specials on Sept. 19 that is part of a new content alliance between Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Crown Media's Hallmark Channel. It will feature interviews with fashion designers Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and J. Crew's Jenna Lyons. Stewart said she hopes she'll be able to do such a show at least once a month if she can take the time off from her daily show. "I'm attracted to groups of people," Stewart said, adding that potential episodes could center around folks like "the hottest, sexiest, young male movie stars -- who are they really, how do they live, how do they cope?...There's also my favorite comedians and how they come up with their material, how are they so talented and verbose and so fantastic?" Down the line she would like to interview political figures, such as First Lady Michelle Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Asked about her interview style, Stewart said she is eyeing "a new, different and friendly way."
