Operations and Deployments

The British Army is actively engaged in operational duties across the globe. The work we do ranges from peacekeeping to providing humanitarian aid, from enforcing anti-terrorism measures to helping combat the international drugs trade.

The Army's strategic goals are under constant review to enable us to help deliver the United Kingdom's strategic priorities around the world alongside the threats that we face today and those that we may face tomorrow.

We strive to meet the new threats posed by international terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and from weak and failing states reflecting our enduring determination to adapt and evolve to meet tomorrow's threats and challenges.

Afghanistan

UK troops are in Afghanistan as part of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) which includes military personnel from 43 other countries. We are there at the invitation of the democratically elected Afghan Government, under an endorsed UN mandate to maintain security, build legitimate governance and promote economic development.
