DC NATION: Happy Labor Day DC Nation!

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

By Alex Segura

Everybody here at the DC offices is getting ready to clear out for a long weekend and the official end of the summer. Considering how much fun we had these past few months on the DC Nation tour, you’d think we’d be sad to say goodbye to the season. But knowing what I know about how we plan on closing out the year…well let’s just say there is a TON to be excited about. We’ll leave you with this image which contains not one, but two hints as to what you can expect.

    Batman in the JLI? A JLI ongoing? A happy Zombie Ted?

  2. syvyn11 says on :

    Bruce help make OMAC and Brother Eye. He helped Max Lord. Guess who just came back from the past? Guess who didn’t get mind-wiped by Lord? Guess who still remembers Max?

    It’s the same answer for all three questions, Bruce Wayne. Look for him to play a major part of JL:GL’s second half.

  3. praetor says on :

    @syvyn11 :

    You’re absolutely right. I don’t know if the old JLI will be re-established permanently after JL:GL… but maybe Wayne recruits some of them to Batman Inc.

    This cover reminds my of David Mazzucchelli’s Batman. I love it.

  4. fred says on :

    is that a cover done by Matt Wagner The Great, or is it Darwyn Cooke playing at Matt Wagner The Great ?

  5. joeyravn says on :

    Neither. That’s Cliff Chiang’s cover. It was shown yesterday, here, at The Source :P

  6. madamerogue says on :

    Ian Sattler has been sent to the Village?

  7. wildclaw says on :

    So does this mean that there are no more posts for nearly a week? This is only Wednesday. How long is this long weekend?

  8. Zawisza says on :

    @wildclaw
    Just a guess, but this wil be the Source page from this week’s comics. I’m sure there’ll be more posts for the rest of the real week.
    At least I hope.

    As for the image itself, Cliff Chiang really knows how to make some pretty art, doesn’t he? I walked away from JL:GL as it seemed to be spinning its wheels for the first 7 issues, but maybe I’ll hop back over and give it a looksee.

    I’d like to agree w/comment #2, above, but the problem I have is that the Bat-costume as shown is neither Bruce (since he’s apparently getting a new costume when he gets back) nor Dick. It’s Bruce’s “old” costume. Makes me wonder whether Booster & Co go time-traveling in search of Max. Would answer questions about costume and why there seems to be an active JLI embassy somewhere.

    Oh Justice League: Generation Lost, how I love thee!!!!! DC must start a new ONGOING after the maxi-series is over. Keep the same creative team (Winick + Lopresti), same team members (Da!), add Guy Gardner… and let the good times roll!

    JLI forever!!!!!

  11. burntselena says on :

    Here is what I think…Red skies, obvious crisis reference also involving time anomalies. Given the recent announcement of two Batmen working the world, one will be transported back in time and knowing that Max Lord is still alive. I figure it will be Grayson since he is the one who doesn’t believe and needs evidence, Bruce Wayne will stay in the present but people will think the Max Lord stuff is just an after-effect from Omega Sanction stuff. The give-away, no yellow oval on the Batman suit indicative of that era’s Batman.

  12. Ricardo says on :

    JLI monthly. Now we’re talking.

  13. badsoul says on :

    if batman is going international in batman inc, it would make sense if he joined the jli.

    Man I would kill to see a jli comic with batman in it. Make it happen DC.
    Oh and by batman I mean BRUCE WAYNE

    So, there are rumors that the DC New York Office will fully relocate to the west coast by the end of the year - any truth to those rumors? Or, anyone else heard this?

    You guys have a lot coming at us the end of the year so far:
    The Pop-up Book - coming out right before my birthday in October.
    The Superman/Ali reprint - definitely getting that too.
    And, who knows what else you have in store that you haven’t told us - but, I’m VERY EXCITED and on pins and needles! :D

  15. wildclaw says on :

    @zawisza: Thank you kindly!

  16. meisterlegion says on :

    @Wildclaw - The United States has a holiday called Labor Day on Monday, so that is what the long weekend refers to. Many offices/business even close early on Friday.

    Here in Cincinnati we celebrate Labor Day which also corresponds with the end of Summer by a HUGE FESTIVAL sponsored by a local radio station: WEBN - which does this amazing fireworks display, that rivals any you’ve seen in the world…yep, I said in the world. It’s pretty huge. :)

  17. jorel1983 says on :

    this should have been posted friday not in the middle of the week. Labor is one day not fri-tues. but its all good i’ll be seeing them in nyc

  18. majesticfool says on :

    Have a Happy, DC GANG!!!

  19. capmarvelfan says on :

    Hmm, well, time travel and/or story set in the past would make sense. We have characters that travel in time in the JLI (Booster and Cap Atom)

    Bruce should remember Max when he gets back and that IS his old costume. It was also established in Booster’s book that Bruce knows about Booster’s role as a Time Guardian. Plus, Bruce was a founding member of the JLI.

    Dick has been involved in the series slightly — he’s the only one so far to wonder why it’s odd that no one (himself included!) wants to investigate the JLI claims.

    So, some greater Bat-involvement from either or both of them would make sense story-wise.

    I’m liking JL:Generation Lost better than Brightest Day at the moment - and I’m a “Winnick hater” as they say. I wish they could fit in J’onn or Guy somehow - both were central to the original JLI. I’m sure Guy’s off-limits, but why couldn’t J’onn swing by after his fight with Ollie? And what about Wally? If he isn’t appearing anywhere else, why not here?!!

  20. Ricardo says on :

    @capmarvelfan

    This Batman is not Bruce, unless we are talking about past Bruce. Current Bruce has yellow oval. As for J’onn, I think he is off-limits now because of Tomasi. However, I hope to see J’onn back to JLI, because I never enjoyed his direction from Morrison on. He used to be a unique character and now he is just one more alien with kids, races, yellow Martians, White Martians…

  21. spencerwins2x says on :

    i think this has something to do with the booster gold series going on right now about booster trying to collect evidence to prove maxwell lords existence.
    maybe batman will think of him as a thief or something?

    maybe he will be affected by the mind control set by maxwell lord as soon as he comes back to the present and thinks they jli is being suspicious

  22. tanglevine says on :

    I always loved the idea of JLI embassys. Hopefully a blending of the generation lost and JLA books is on the horizon

  23. morsoth says on :

    Yes, modern Bruce “Batman” Wayne will get a yellow oval insigna, but he can wait some days before changing his outfit.

    I don’t think he will say: “Finally, I’m back in the current time. Let’s get a new Bat-Costume first!” :)

    And this is probably why the cover of “Batman and Robin” shows two Batmen in the same costume.

  24. choob says on :

    @morsoth

    Exactly! The most likely thing is that Chiang didnt know what Bruce’s latest costume looked like when he was doing this cover so he drew his old one.

  25. ravenmaster says on :

    this image says to me that we will be seeing two things coming back to the dc universe obviously the original batman and the return of the JLI
