The `Manmadha Rasa' girl will be back in `The Police'.

It was just like a picnic - Chaya Singh
NO STARRY airs, heavy-duty statements or celebrity tantrums. The cool, soft spoken beauty, clad in a light blue churidar, sits on the set, immersed in a comic book, which co-star Prithviraj describes as her `staple diet'. Chaya Singh, who had danced her way into a million hearts with that smashing number `Manmadha Raasa... ' with Dhanush in the film `Thiruda Thirudi', is all smiles on hearing the remark.
"I don't understand novels, so I prefer reading comics during the break," says she. Her association with Malayalam films happened with `Mullavalliyum Thenmavum', in which she played Rajasri, who had ran away from her home with her lover, Shelly. They set up a house by the side of the beach, where they lived in separate rooms and waited for her mother's consent to start their life "as a family".
Not bubbly
Is the real Chaya Singh as bubbly as her characters in the movies? " I am not," she says candidly, without batting an eyelid. "But I love to make others laugh." Chaya grew up in Bangalore where she was studying for her Plus Two when the tryst with the movie world happened. "I wanted to try my hand at modelling and soon, I got an offer for acting in a Kannada television serial. I shot for three days but was thrown out of the project. It was then that I decided to make it big in films. My first film, `Munnudi' got national recognition and the huge success of films like `Tuntaata' with Anirudh did wonders to my career. Even the same director who had thrown me out from the serial, called me for his movie. The editor of `Tuntaata' suggested my name to the makers of `Thiruda Thirudi' and that turned out to be a real blockbuster."
Manmadha Raasa
Did she think `Manmadha Raasa... ' would turn out to be such a rage?
"Never. We did the shooting in Kolar in the scorching heat. The film was complete and we shot the song just like any other ."
How was it working with Dhanush? "He was really nice. As `Kaathal Kondein' had not been released then, he was not the kind of sensation that he is now."
Her next big project is `Solli Adipein' starring Vivek. Currently, she is shooting for V.K.Prakash's `The Police' in Kochi. "I had no idea about Malayalam films but was really impressed when I came here for the shooting. It was just like a picnic."
Her name was publicised as `Minnu' in `Mullavalliyum Thenmavum'.
