Success is infectious and `Jayam' Ravi and his director-brother Raja are raring to make it a hat-trick of hits

TINSELDOM HAS so far been a family affair for `Jayam' Ravi and his elder brother and director Raja. But after their latest home production M. Kumaran, S/O Mahalakshmi, the duo is looking at doing movies for other banners.
"My brother will definitely not be a part of my next directorial venture," affirms Raja. Ravi has already signed up a movie for Lakshmi Movie Makers and is likely to act in one to be produced by SPB Charan for which talks are on.
During a videoconference for the promotion of M. Kumaran organised by Reliance Infocomm, they spoke about the film and their career. Raja says the audience welcomed the freshness in approach in the movie.
"The difference was in the treatment. Instead of following the beaten track, we portrayed a `natural' mother-son relationship on screen. The friendly interaction was a departure from usual mother-son sentiment seen on screen. This won critical acclaim and audience liked it too."
Yesteryear heroine Nadiya played the mother's role and Raja says that she "fit into it quite well." "Does family background help in tinseldom? "You can probably make your debut easily if your family members are into films. But to make it big, you should be talented. Success depends on individual skills," observes Ravi.
Their career in the Tamil film industry started with a bang with the runaway success `Jayam'.
There was a long gap between their first and second films. Was the wait worth it? "Yes. We received a lot of offers. But the script didn't quite match our expectations. As we had already given a decent film we wanted to continue with the good work," Raja remarks.
