The queen of bad things
Urvashi Dholakia.
WHEN URVASHI Dholakia first heard the name of Komolika, she asked Ekta Kapoor, "So, what is that?" Little did she know then that the role of Komolika in Balaji Telefilm's Kasauti Zindagi Kay will be her vehicle for such a resounding success on small screen. Rolling her eyes in a provocative manner, her pursed lips often ending in a knowing, half smile, overdone make-up, enmeshed in a gaudy chiffon sari and a backless blouse, Urvashi, in the garb of Komolika, the crafty bahu of the Basu family, has by now become an unofficial yardstick to rate bad women on TV.
"I have not come across anyone so far who says she hates me but often I meet people who tell me that I am really not in the love-list of the usual serial viewers. Honestly, I feel good then. At least, that is what I am supposed to be. A bad, wily woman," says Urvashi. Being the first in her family to get in front of camera to act three years ago, this trained Bharatanatyam dancer gives most of the credit to this art for adding that extra bit to the script. "I guess it is the abhinaya that Bharatanatyam taught me which is coming in handy to add those antics into Komolika's character," she says.
Having worked for about 14 hours a day to shoot for Balaji Telefilm's Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Kahin To Hoga, Urvashi says she is not ready for any other serial at the moment.
Time to choose
"I got the role of Komolika because I was already doing their serials, Ghar Ek Mandir and Kabhi Souten Kabhi Saheli. Though I was not very keen on a negative role, but then, beggars are not choosers," the queen of bad things smiles that familiar smile.
However, she adds that such a situation is past for her. "Now, I won't jump into a role unless I seriously want to do it," she insists. Though not ready for a Komolika-like role in films, she says, she will think about Bollywood only if the script excites her enough. "I do not feel like lying on the editing table.
I am a performer and so, I should be convincing enough to skip the scissors," Urvashi states. Looks like the lady has already charted out what she wants.
