Top Priority for unfinished agenda
M.V.V.S. Murthi .
M.V.V.S. Murthi more popularly known as `Gold Spot Murthi' is Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's trusted man in the district. Apart from being a successful industrialist he has been the member of the 10th and 13th Lok Sabhas and is trying his luck for the third time from the same Visakhapatnam Parliamentary constituency.
His political career started with the clarion call given by the TDP founder, N.T. Rama Rao, in 1982. In 1989 he was made the Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority and in 1989 he contested election for the first time for the Lok Sabha. Though he lost that election he was subsequently elected in 1991 and in 1999.
He claims to be instrumental for the sanctioning of the Rs.250 crore international airport project and the 24X7 Godavari water project.
On his campaign strategy, he says, "I have nothing much to say, I am only seeking a mandate to complete my unfinished agenda."
And what are in his list of unfinished agenda?
"I will make Polavaram a reality; once the linking of rivers is completed. Visakhapatnam would be on the top of the tourism chart in the country, create huge job opportunity through IT parks and convert the vacated central jail area to an international shopping mall cum entertainment centre."
This time Dr. Murthi is pitted against a much formidable opponent in the form of the former Chief Minister and Congress candidate, N. Janardhana Reddy. "To derail him, the nativity card is high on my agenda. I have been elected twice from this place and my base is here (though I hail from Amalapuram). He is from Nellore and has no linkage with Visakhapatnam. And I am putting this factor across to my people."
Well, Congress seems to be plagued with the nativity factor, right from their President, Sonia Gandhi to Janardhana Reddy and the TDP over here seems to be facing the music of its dissidents.
But Murthi counters it by saying, "There is no dissidence except for the former district president, Bharanikana Rama Rao."
On the speculation of anti-incumbency factor, he asserts, "That factor is for the non-performers to ponder upon, we are performers."
