Sony has claimed that PS3 games are rated higher on average than their 360 counterparts on Metacritic.
Coming out swinging at Gamescom in Germany tonight, SCEE boss Andrew House claimed that PS3 games' average is 80 per cent compared to the Xbox 360 average of 77 per cent.
He also claimed that the sales momentum for hardware was in Sony's "favour" since the launch of PS3 Slim in 2009.
Sony also announced two new PlayStation models at the show - 160GB and 320GB models.
3 points huge difference well all you have to do to see who's got more better games is just looks at top ps3 games vs top xbox360 games. xbox is currently winning and well mass effect 2 for ps3 is sure to get a review, LBP 2 sure to get a great score, With a few nice bribes Killzone 3 will get a good review for its genertic gameplay and nice colour scale now ranging from white to gray, Some move game will get good reviews for it precise gameplay. however xbox's ranks will also be bolsterd with the amazing package that is halo reach, The fun but prehaps marmite fable 3, GoW3 will be good as nothing beat's in in 3rd person gameplay, forza 4 arguably best Sim racer at the momment but who knows how great GT5 will be could be the greatest ever or simply to simulation and boring.... you know where i'm going with this is you want to have the most fun just buy both or neither

No point in giving such a stat unless they fully explain the criteria of how they arrived at that figure. It can give you whatever stat you want if you tip the criteria in your favour. For instance, the 360 has vastly more games in its library compared to the ps3 so you couldn't do a fair comparison by averaging every game rated on metacritic. A fairer way to do it would be to do an average of the PS3s 100 top rated games and an average of the 360s 100 top rated games. Be interesting to see what stat that would throw up as the 360 version of nearly every multiplatform game that comes out ends up scoring better or being superior so something seems a bit odd in his proclamations. I have both machines so have no vested interest as they are both great but it does do my head in when these whoppers from both companies spout stupid stats.
I have never read so much crap in my life, i have both systems and i will let you guess which one has become an expensive paperweight, in the last 2 generations, i was a PS fan in a big way, now i really do think Sony have lost their way. They have no justification for this statement, the vast majority of the games released for it are inferior to the xbox version, now it doesn't matter if that's to do with lazy ports by developers or not, the point is that it's fact. I long for the day that i actually find more than about 3 games that make me want to play the bloody thing!! And as for ps Network, it has no comparison to Live, and i defy anyone to try and argue that it does, its a shambles in comparison.

I think (I'm pretty sure they've never said exactly how they do it), they actually give some sites/mags a bigger influence on the score than others.
No you have a point, this is not what it means at all, what you will find is, that people like myself who have been playing games for 25 years tend to know the difference between quality and inferior quality, and im sorry to say for the ps3 at the moment, it is mostly the latter. Im sure over time this could change, but it will most likely be too late for for Sony to win this generation. I think most people can see that Microsoft got a jump on Sony this generation, and it worked. Im sure we will see a few gems (other that Uncharted and GOW) from Sony yet, at least lets hope....
The only people "winning" this gen is the customers. Hell you could own both consoles and enjoy the games rather than pander to these cooperate ass holes.
I play my PS3 more than my 360 but this means nothing. Personal preference is key and NO console is s**t.
From what I have seen, the 360 version of a cross-platform game is almost always considered superior to the PS3 version. Usually due to having better anti-aliasing, better framerates, and/or sometimes a higher resolution.
Not bashing the PS3... it is much different to program for than the 360 and PC, so I think it gets short changed. It's probably easier to make the 360/PC version first since you are covering 2 of the platforms that way. So it's the PS3 that gets stuck with the "port" so to speak- a game that doesn't fully take advantage of the Cell and the PS3's strong points.
is this a joke or what?. the Xbox 360 has consistently out sold the pS3 2 to 1 in the UK, simply because its games sell more than on the PS3. remember last month when news came out that Halo 3 had out sold all of Sony's first party's top 4 games put together... some people would believe anything just because its printed on a website. Sony is in 3rd place for a reason. they cannot compete with Xbox Live's games like Halo and Gears of War. add Call of Duty to that line up and Xbox 360 owners are playing the best 3 titles online. while Sony only has Call of Duty. THATS IT!
Well, when Bungie start releasing Halo games for the PS3 then the 360 will only have yet more Gears games to fall back on - bloody 'ell, they should've called it Years of War, lol.
The PS3 on the other hand will have more Uncharted, Resistance, Killzone, Motorstorm, etc.
I mean look at the promise MAG shows...couldn't even run that game on a 360, which isn't surprising now that even mobile phones are offering "Xbox like" experiences (read the article on CVG!)

Anybody who wants to play fps gams or racing sims is going to buy a PS3 or a 360 (as will most people who are primarily online gamers) and this is most likely the reason why people generally compare the two.

there was an article a while back about this - ps3s games have a higher average rating, but the xbox with its larger library actually has more highly rated games. To me it seems that youd want the latter.

i'm happy playing sin and punishment 2,galaxy2,silent hill,etc... in 480p as long as the game underneath is top draw.
i play in high def too on other formats so i'm not exactly missing out.
i would never go so far as to discount a machine because of it's power. the day that happens is the day i'm not really a gamer anymore,more a tech whore who ignores quality software because of the lack of pixel shading and 1080p display(for example).
oh and lol at the ferraris and fiestas remark. the 360 and ps3 are ancient tech by todays pc standards. maybe that should've been fiestas and ford focus' eh?
